I would go with the BX2350 and FEL....you will find in very usefull. I don't mow with my BX24 as I also have a smaller JD tractor for that. I will agree that plowing/clearing with the FEL is not easy but it does a great job when you want to move the piles back. My driveway is to long to make a snowblower practicle so I use the plow in my pickup then clean up with the FEL.

I can't speak to the prices but I do agree with don't be hung up just on price. The dealer can make or break your buying experience. I am lucky to havea great dealer near by. He wasn't the cheapest but the extras he ofered plus the service made up for any price diffrence. As stated a good service department and good over all customer service must be considered with the price. A deal doesn't seem so great when the dealer isn't there to support the product when you need them.
Buying from long distance may save you money in the beginning but many times in the long run it cost you more....

I'm with offcamber on the FEL. I really can't see purchasing a tractor without the FEL. It is almost as useful as the MMM. Also if you add a front blade or blower for snow removal you will need the hydraulics that come with the FEL.

I debated the 1850 vs the 2350 and went with the extra HP and room as the foot well /cockpit of the 2350 is noticabily roomer that the 1850. I'm glad I did as I have enjoyed the extra power and foot room.

Price paid was around $13,000.00 with 60mm and FEL last fall.

The place the extra hp comes in handy is at the rear PTO. Some things like a chipper and generator are often rated such that the 2350 has just enough hp and the 1850 doesn't. Are there any 3ph PTO powered implements that you see yourself eventually using?

Only thing I would say is if you can swing the backhoe, get it. I use it more than the FEL on my BX24. With a fixed thumb (which are fairly cheap) you can pick up heavy things and carry them around (carefully with the hoe straight back and not at an angle which is dangerous).

Can't argue with that...one reason I went with the BX24 was for the BH....

I may be the unpopular one here, but if the difference was between getting a 2350 WITHOUT the FEL and the 1850 WITH the FEL, and I had no choice in the matter, I would absolutely get the FEL over the extra power. The chances of needing the extra HP is much lower than the chances of needing the FEL which is, IMHO, a required investment for this type of tractor. If for no other reason than GREATLY increasing the resale value. In 8 years, how many folks would want one of these things with out a FEL??? Not near as many as with, that's for sure.

However, with the larger tires, extra HP, and other side benefits, I would absolutely try to get the 2350 with deck and FEL. Very, very nice machine.

The BX24 is the smartest money, but the Woods BH6000 ain't that bad of a unit to add a few years down the road.

Just as everyone elses, just my $0.02.

"I would absolutely get the FEL over the extra power"

I would agree with that.

Thanks for your comments. What everyone is forgetting here is that I asked input on the quoted prices for either BX machine with MMM. Instead what I've seen is most people advising me to get this attachment, or that attachment. Only one respondent has written regarding the price quotes I received.

Hopefully, you fine people won't be offended but this is how a posted thread gets hijacked.

What I asked your opinions on was whether the quoted prices for tractors "as equipped" were reasonable. Instead the answers have all turned to adding undesired equipment, it's usefulness, etc. One gentleman even suggested I add a freakin' backhoe to the unit. Gee...do you ever consider the STORAGE of this stuff ? Or do you guys buy it and let it sit out in the elements ?

So, again, I want to thank ALL of you for your input. However, you derailed the train by turning this query into a "you need this accessory" from a "is this a good price ?" posting.

Now perhaps someone would be interested in commenting on the originally posted request ?

DG,

Welcome to TBN. I discovered this forum a little more than a month ago and have found it to be extremely helpful to me, interesting to read, very creative with ideas for saving time and money, on and on.

I bought a new BX 1800 in 2003 with a BX 2750 front mounted snowblower, a 54 inch mmm. I added a 6 foot rear blade about a year later. I have turf tires on my rig and, with the 4 wheel drive, have not found the need for anything else. We live in an area that gets a fair amount of snow through the winter....especially this one. I could not be happier with my Kubota and the attachments I have for it. I find now that I use the blade for clearing the light snows and then blow the piles into the woods with the blower. For storms that dump 12 inches or more, I use the blower and does that thing earn it's money. I have not used a FEL, but my brother has a Grand L30 Kubota with one and finds it impossible to clean his driveway (a quarter mile long) with it, only because of the time it takes to scoop the snow, dump it, get back to the next segment, etc. I've read the same thing here about fel's for snow removal on a big scale. Then the debate shifts to front mounted or rear mounted snowblowers. I like the front mounted, but know that it cost a little more. I just like driving forward when blowing and have no regrets with the front mounted selection.

You'll find almost immediately that you don't have enough lights on your tractor, so you'll need to add some. I would also read the threads about alternators versus Dynamo's and negotiate an alternator as part of your purchase (which, by the way, looked good to me and I think Kubota has some pretty enticing financing deals going on right now, so it's hard to resist.) My dealer has been excellent for service related issues, but there haven't been many. With very little mechanical ability, you'll be able to perform many of the routine maintenance projects yourself. Buy some extra filters, shear pins, and go have fun.

Dyer...thanks for your great comments. Very useful for me. However, how do the prices look that I was quoted ?

Just trying to help, friend. This is the beauty of a forum like this...we've all been through it before. Some of us several times. I would suggest a ZTR as a real kick-butt lawn mower, but if you don't want any more input, that's OK too.

Regarding your original post:

BX1850 is about 6% off MSRP. OK, but not great.

BX2350 is not quite 10% off MSRP. This is a pretty good deal. Not the absolute best, but a really good solid price. I would not bother shopping around after a price like this. The largest price cut under MSRP we've seen is about 12%...maybe 15% if somebody is telling a fish tale. If you can swing it, you will never regret the larger tires, the bigger engine, or the larger deck.

And if you're not careful, it will sound like you're calling the rest of us a bunch of idiots with money to burn.

My equipment is as nice as the day I bought it and it has saved me COUNTLESS hours of manual labor...or lining the landscaper's pockets with another $15,000 over the course of 2 years. That amount of cash that I've SAVED over the past 2 years...which would make my tractor nearly FREE. And it has at least another 20 years to go.

Yes. I, for one, meticulously considered storage of all my "stuff" and am very glad I made the choice I did. So is my wife. It has a happy home in my garage. Lord willing, it will have a nice heated shed to live in in 2011.

Like I said, we're just trying to help. You're welcome, friend.
