Cool- A few years later what is your current status with the 27 HP Kohler? Can we see some pictures now? The crank on my 422 from PT looked like it was hacked off with a chainsaw. I don't think anyone was concerned with balance when they cut mine off. I have a current thread as my 3 year old 422 with 450 hours on it just siezed last week. Any comments would be great.

I read this article about a new Deutz turbocharged engine . I thought some of you might be interested.


Deutz has expanded its 1011F series of engines to include the new BF3M1011F, an oil-cooled, turbocharged three-cylinder diesel. The new engine has an output range of 36 to 62 hp, depending on the configuration, and is designed to provide the power of a larger engine in a smaller envelope. The 2.2 L engine has a bore and stroke of 3.6 x 4.4 in. and a compression ratio of 17.5:1. Maximum torque output is 135 ft.lb. at 1800 rpm.

I do think of turbocharging my PT, but I have to wonder what heat issues would arise... Also, could the Deutz engine still be rated at 45 degrees with a Turbo....

You are right, that is old news. Sorry.

The rebuilt one that was for sale on E-bay recently was I believe 79 HP. Pistons were cooled by an oil spray. So far, I have not been engine limited. How about you, Carl?

I have been limited by lift capacity many times recently. I have had 3 tractors with different lift capacities: 800 lbs, 2000 lbs, and now 1200 lbs. It hurts to go "backwards". 3000 lbs would be nice. Work sold an outdoor forklift that only had a few hundred hours on it but was 30 years old. A friend heard about it and turned it down and did not think to ask me. It sold for $600. If he wasn't such a good friend he might be an ex-friend!!!

On my steepest incline that I normally traverse (25 degrees) I bog a bit at the top (300 feet long slope). As any normal person I want more power. I totally agree with Ken, the engine is enough, but the front end lift is really a shame. As my piston rod on my tilt has a slight bend in it, I plan to order all new cylinders for the front, upgrading them by a quarter or half inch...
