Problem tire brands

( Thanks to all for the input. I was hoping to find out if any of you had a brand of tire that was consistently a problem or a brand you would never buy again )

I bought a Nissan Hardbody new in 1986 that had Yokahama tires that wore very well, I was still running these tires when I traded it in '91 with over 50,000 miles. Currently I'm running MultiMile brand and they show very little wear after 12,000 miles even though I drive on gravel daily.

As far as brands I won't buy again: GoodYear and Douglas. The Douglas tires were LOUD, wore out quickly (<25,000 miles) and could never quite be balanced.

Why couldn't they be balanced?)
As you mentioned in an earlier post, they were out of round. I jacked the truck up and spun the tires and it was obvious. I had had a similar experience with another set (different brand) on another vehicle and got no satisfaction after replacing 2 or 3 of them, so this time I just lived with them and vowed to not buy that brand again.

My wifes uncle retired from a tire plant in Akron Ohio several years ago.

Half of the city of Akron is retired from the tire industry.

My grandfather and three of his brothers had a combined 144 years of service at Goodyear.

Except for the Goodyear headquarters, there is no tire activity left in Akron. Goodyear has some specialized race tire production, but other than that, there is no tire production in Akron at all.

It's happened to me a few times: Didn't seem to matter who i bought from or what brand of tire.

Sometimes it hard to tell if wheel shimmy is because of out of balance or out of round.

***I know that drill. Had one place tell me my rim was bent.
I asked him how he bent the rim just putting the tire on it. They replaced the tire free.

DOUGLAS:
I haven't found them to be noisy.
I have 4 on the 1989 Nissian PU
The 1989 D50 has 3 on it I bough summer of 2003
My 1986 Dodge Ram 50 has one on it also.
I've found them to do pretty well considering they're the lowest price i can find on tires around here.

OK , Won't say never but I had 2 different sets of good yr on 2 diff vehicle that even though rotated wore out way to early the 1st on a car and the second on a 94 dakota LWB ext. cab. It had oem 50k rated tires that lasted 30K. The dealer blamed the tire co and the gd yr dealer sayed the oem tires are a delaer issue.

my ford splash 93 came with Firestone FireHawks New 2k on the when I bought it used. Lasted 30 ish out of 50k rating and were louwsy on wet surfaces. Especially on a truck that light.

I went to Michellin (XLT I think they are a AP tire)on the splash in 99 and they are still on it. No dry rot, no splitting still in great shape and 65k so far.. I did go abit more narrow and taller for better traction in the wet. I put the same but newer model light truck tire (stock size)on my 96 exploder 3 yrs ago and they have 50k and waring well so far. Wet is no problem with them so far with about 50k on them. Same tire I used on my 94 Dakota.... My wife honda civic has there all weather tire on it and they are verwy verwy quite.... wich is also a reason I like there tires...

Iv'e averaged about 50k + a year on several diff kinda vehicles since 92, Up until the last 2 yrs now I travel much buy plane.

toyota, hydia, several exploders(Explorers),f150, dakota, ranger, rodeo, some personal vehicles some work, Just to name a few models.

But I have and do spend lots of time on the road. the last 2 yrs I've been traveling all over the US by plane and car and I love to check out different cars at the rental places and make mental notes as to the ones I like best and why including the tires. If the car today rides different from the one a few days ago. Lately i've been renting the new Cheve malabu. They have had bridgestones on them for the most part and the ride well. While a tad louder than what I would prefer...

My ten sents...

I also had a set of Goodyear Wranglers on my pickup a few years back.
WORST TIRE I EVER OWNED.
Payed top $ for them too.
Didn't last more than 25,000 mile and I have never had so many flat tires in my life. JUNK !!!
The tires I'm running right now are Cordavan Radial RVT.
100% better tire in my opinion, 30,000 miles so far with minimal wear.

I edited several of your messages, as well as one where someone quoted you, in order to clean up the messed up fonts and make them easier to read.
