propane bottles freezing

Yeah im sorry about the wording I suppose I dont really want the propane in liquid form but not gel either. Weve been sitting here at about -30 for over a week. he thinks hes not getting enough propane to run the heaters at an effective level. Ill talk to him about multiple regulaters but Im not sure I understand how that would help? he told me last night hes thinking of warming them with the tiger torch:eek:

Im not complaining about the cold lets keep it coming and wipe out the pine beetles.

What is the total BTU load from the heators?

With the temps at -30, a 100 pound cylinder 20 % full will draw only 11,600 BTU at continues withdraw.

If it warms up to 10 degrees outside then it will produce 43,700 BTU.

It sounds like a bigger tank is needed.

ill try too get some numbers. its just the bus system so = stove, heater, fridge is all that would be used if pluged into 120 ?I think?
thank you for the tips

there is no inside to store the tank but we have it surrounded by hay aswell.

The hay is not doing you any good and is actually doing you harm.

The air temp you have is high enough to evaporate the propane, the hay can only prevent the air from "heating" the tank. Yes, even at -30 the air is warmer than the tank and will heat it.

Thanks firedog those look good i guess release date is in jan 09 for the propane models . but im sure this guy wouldnt want to pay the good money for it. im sure he asked everyone he knew if they had old water bed matresses lying in there garages. hed be glad to get them out of your way;)

besides warming the propane bottles he mentioned the W.B. heater pad would be great to lay on the cold concrete while working under a truck. I told him if i find one now ill probabley keep it :p

I feel kinda bad for him when it gets cold, living in a bounder bus in a river valley at - 35 thankfully hes got a good 120v source for all the heaters hes running.

we run 20 lbs and 100 lbs bottle to heat pipe to weld, after about 30 above F. it starts to get funky. at first it works, but slowly the propane dwindles and you notice the flame shrink. We just turn the flame on the bottle for just a couple seconds and the flame runs up. as it gets colder it gets worse.

A water bed heater on the bottom of a 100 lbs bottle will help, we also use 100 watt light bulbs in insulated enclosures.

it was 52 below F. last week without wind and several of my friends use propane for home cooking. It takes 100 lbs just to run a stove and if you are cooking the Xmas turkey you run out of propane.

I would say you could add more tanks to help in the cold you would be in good shape and a heater under the bottom to keep the tank from cooling from evaparation.
