Not sure what we're talking about here, but is it possible the tank was overfilled and you are getting liquid instead of gas?

It's likely that the real problem is that you are trying to pull propane out too fast on a cold day. The rate at which liquid propane can vaporize is directly related to the amount of surface area at the top of the liquid layer and the outside ambient temperature. Another factor is that as propane vaporizes - the tank cools - making future vaporization slower. To get around this problem - you can buy propane tank heaters (heaters designed to heat the tank itself) from a variety of sources (google it).

Hope this helps.

That was my first though after reading the post. Any time, the vapor is pulled to fast for the size of tank that will also happen.

cleatur,
Go to Dean's site and ask him about it. I bet that he has had the same thing happen and will know exactly what for your friend to do.

Compared to natural gas, LPG is a fuel that has several undesirable characteristics when used as a fuel in high volume demand systems, especially when used as an alternative fuel.

Heavy ends and oils, along with free water found in LPG, even HD5 high purity LPG, can require constant service in vaporizers. Long chain hydrocarbons and other contaminants can cause combustion problems that are all inherent in the fuel.

As it passes through and vaporizers and the fuel system deposits heavy ends. The hydrocarbon chains breakdown at this point in the fuel system, leaving a buildup of a gummy residue similar to grease. Also, water deposits in the vaporizer and fuel system not only will foul the fuel, they can freeze, blocking the flow of fuel.
