Propane prices in your area

I was just told by a friend that home delivered propane was $3.84/gallon. Anyone else bought any recently?

I always lock in pre -season; don't like surprises -up or down (very rarely down though during the winter).

Average spot price in NY now is about $3.30 per the NYS energy board.

locked in pre-season at $1.75. I own my tanks though.

I ordered propane yesterday, fill up for a 1000 gallon tank. Tank @ 30%. From Southhall Gas in Centerville PA. $2.39 per gallon

It will vary a lot depending on geographical area and on the supplier. Prices in my local area range from $2.75 to $4 per gallon.

If you own your tank then shop around. If you rent then probably no other company will fill your tank. Some companies have programs where you sign up for a year and they give you a fixed price for that period. Often that ends up being cheaper over all than getting it at the current rate every time but in the summer you might be paying a higher price than the current spot rate.

There are also propane users groups that negotiate a lower rate with companies who are willing to go along. Check to see if there's one in your area.

Comment on owning your own propane tank. As I was told if you have a ASTM certified tank that is sufficient for owning your own propane tank. If you have a DOT certified tank then there are inspections that are required at intervals. This is for PA/ Gov laws/ regulations.

No annual inspections of tanks required by NYS.

I purchased my tanks in 2008 from the company that supplied the propane to them for a few years.

my guess is that, if you switch suppliers, the new supplier will inspect the tanks first though before filling them.

AN tanks (bottles) and propane bottles are the same except for the fill and vapor taps so if there are any AN bottles for sale around you, buy them. Moat suppliers will refit them for a nominal charge or for free if you buy your gas from them. Both of my 500 gallon bottles are repurposed AN bottles.

330 gal. tank here. Don't own it. Gas company suggested the smaller tank as we do burn some wood and the smaller tank fills more often and helps fit their route schedule. Filled in November at 2.09 and again yesterday at 2.19. Seems reasonable.....

Filled small tanks and RV at TSC in October. It had jumped from 2.57 to $3.27 in a few weeks.

According to Michigan Propane prices it's holding pretty steady. Now if Whitless succeeds in getting Line 5 shut down, who knows where the prices will go. Most all of our propane here comes out of Sarnia. I pre bought 500 for a little less than you locked in at.

I wish I was. over the years propane has been pretty much at least twice as expensive as NG. Why we use a bio mass stove (corn stove as well).

Delivery today. £95 for 47kgs. Check my maths, but 1kg = 1.8 litres and 3.785 litres = 1 U.S. gallon, so I make it that 47kgs = 84.6 litres = 22.35 gallons, so £4.25 per gallon. Xrate about £1=$1.35 so about $3.15/gallon. Small quantity, offshore island and UK fossil fuel prices are always a lot higher than US prices.

Orkney is very windy and has a surplus of wind power almost constantly but we still pay around 20p (27c) per kWh.
