Propane Prices

Well, The Suburban delivery man let me with a bill for $4.40 per gallon last week when he topped of my 2 tanks. I called today and told the customer service lady the price seemed way out of reason as I only paid $1.89 back during the summer fill up program. They are suppose to adjust it down to $1.79 and re-bill me. Something screwy going on somewhere? Ken Sweet

Wow, all those prices seem pretty high. I don't have propane anymore but parents still do. They just filled up Friday for 1.09 and was like 94 cents at the start of winter.

Cheap enough that they haven't hardly ran the heatpump this year except for those days it pushes 50 degrees

These prices are in line with what is should be.

That's crazy, I wonder if anybody actually paid $4.40 and didn't bother to call.

We're on "will call" so I don't get a surprise, I always know the price before they fill the tank. Another reason I like to control the fills, I swear they were waiting for the price to jump before filling me and not giving me a cheap summer fill.

Have not had a delivery for two years and tank is at 80%

For 40 years we always left the propane on at the cabin and no issues... water heater on pilot and furnace thermostat at 40F

Three years ago the propane vendor damaged the tank and had to repair on their dime... first time not having heat in the cabin over winter... all went fine.

Two years ago a bear damage the regulator so I had to repair and decided to leave it off if cabin unoccupied...

We were averaging $900 in propane annually and $300 in electricity.

2015 no measurable propane usage and basically only the $7.50 monthly meter charge for electricity.

I would almost be willing to bet good money that people on gvmt assistance will get billed at the higher rate and it will get paid for with our tax dollar. Ken Sweet

Had LP delivered yesterday at $1.02 / gallon (leased tank, cash payment). That's 17 cents less per gal than they were offering last August for winter pre-pay contracts.

That is opposite of what I had so far this winter. Summer fill is Sept was $.89 and fill end of Dec was $1. 35.

I had a delivery a week ago in Eastern Kansas, leased tank. $1.24 a gallon or $1.14 if paid within 7 days.

I had a delivery a couple of weeks ago, $1.69/gallon. I used to heat with propane but put in a geothermal system in the fall of 2014. The propane company still makes deliveries as if I were still heating with it, except now it's about 60 gallons per delivery instead of 300. I figure eventually they'll raise my rates for not using enough, but they haven't yet.

Boy, those propane companies are making a TON of money this winter.. Propane spot price is about 33 cents per gallon. Sure there is processing, and storage, and delivery.. BUT $1.00 a gallon would be a killing. This is not like a couple of years ago when the spot price was over $1.50 per gallon Sooo. the spot price is 1/5 of what it was.

You can see that illustrated here:

I guess my supplier isn't a gouger....lol

But then my supplier is also a hunting friend so if he did gouge me and we were in the woods hunting.... well, I'll let you all read between the lines....

Anyway, after reading this thread and looking at your prices, I looked back at my last fill bill and it was 89 cents a gallon in the fall. I need another fill now and swung by the office up town. It's up to a big 99 cents a gallon. Went up 10 cents.

I own three 500 gallon bottles. I run on one and keep 2 valved off just in case. My 'needs a fill' bottle is sitting at 22%.

Propane would have to be $1.45 / gallon to break with my pellet / corn stove that has sat all winter, unused.

I know what it cost for residential propane and what they pay and the profit margin after expenses like the plant, bulk storage tanks, propane trucks, personnel, upkeep on equipment and insurance (and thats a big hit in the propane retail business, plus workers compensation, unemployment insurance and general taxes, isn't all that much, maybe 10 cents a gallon delivered.

They ain't getting rich by any means.

You have to look at the entire picture, not just the spot price compared to the retail price. That is a false comparison.

Ken:

I don't believe that propane comes under low income heating assistance, least not around here because it's all supplied by independent businesses.

I don't see my hunt bud playing that crap.

I would have told them to come pull it out. Thats easy to do, you can reverse pump a tank just like pumping it in. You need a new supplier.
