The whole tractor / property thing scares the heck out of me. I mean, I look at my list of To Do's and am wondering if I need to buy some more land just to keep me busy. I mean I have at least 5 more years of grounds work at this pace, but then what? I will build a house, but then what? I will build a barn, but then what? I mean, I guess I need to buy more land...

Our getaway is 55 acres. We can't seem to get enough of it. With the recent power outage to more than a million here in the city for 3 days, we had the perfect excuse to go sleep in a tipi and cook the food that would have spoiled from the fridge. Burgers taste great over hickory.

That's a right nice Tipi

Here is the shot of my cabin/home. Was a shack when I met the wife and moved in, no ft porch, no carport. It still isn't much, but if you had seen the stuff used on the construction- Inside door for the outside, cut to 5', Lapboard "gate" for front door, go through the bathroom to enter the kitchen from back, go through the master bedroom to enter the daughters bedroom. 4 different floor heights, no closets, 2 upper cupboards in kitchen 10" above counter, no other cupboards in the rest of house.
Dad and I rebuilt the roofs over all of the additions, added the carport - Hand poured the carport this summer, one slab at a time, paint, hot tub, garden
I don't own it, I just fix it. It's my in-law's 7 acres, now with a tractor I can get it cleaned up (The others in the family are to lazy).

Here are a few photos around our place here in the Ouachita foothills of west central Arkansas. We bought ten acres in 1970, moved a trailer out in the spring of 1971. Later we increased to 30+ acres. Hand dug septic tank & field lines! (Buying a tractor in those days was like the Joads of grapes of wrath getting a new Mercedes) We now live at the back of our place 100 feet above the Middle Fork of the Saline River) 64 and still homesteading, hunting, welding, felling/splitting, raising chickens, gardening. Country living is not the best way......it's the only way.

I have 6.23 acres in central Utah, About 90 miles SE of my home in the Salt Lake valley. I actually purchased the ground when I was a sophomore in high school. I hadn't really started developing the ground until the last 10 years or so, being as raising young 'uns and buying homes took precedence over spending money on land that wasn't going anywhere anyway.

Now that my kids are teenagers, I have more time to build our future (retirement) home. Our plans are to have a home in place and paid for by the time we retire, so we will have a smooth low cost transition to the country when the time comes.

Some pics of work since I bought the Kubota...

Coreshot nice place you have there. Don't take this the wrong way but i have read you are not suppose to raise the tractor off the ground. I know that is how the big boys do it. But it is hard on a smaller machine.

No offense taken. I'm new to this game, I'll listen to any advice I can get. Thanks.
