PT 1850 Running Hot !

Who on earth did you call about oil coolers. The oil coolers that I am talking about run from $30 to $120, depends on the core type. This is very similar to the transmission oil coolers used on millions of cars, to cool the transmission. Like I said before, I had one of them on my 25 hp Kohler, and onother to cool the hydraulic oil. Yor can get all the fans you want at the junk yard.

I called Power Trac, to get one like the pt has on it.

The million dollar question is will the other am coolers hold the pressure? The one on the PT now has hydraulic lines with compression fittings on them, so I assume the fluid pressure there could be +-1000 psi ?? Its possible they gave me the wrong price.

I just checked the cooler links. Some of those coolers have npt fittings, so they might work. The cheap ones with hose clamps might not hold the pressure.

They probably did give you the right price for a unit that they want to sell to you. I did an Internet search, and there are many engine oil cooling units.

The oil pressure is probably no more than 30 to 60 lbs on that engine Even if it is high pressure, think of the cooler for the hyd fluid. The PT operates the cylinders and motors, at 3000 psi, but on the way back to tank, it goes through the hyd cooler, which is thin metal. Can you post a close up picture of the oil cooler. Check your manual for the oil pressure, or put a gage on it.

The PT operates the cylinders and motors, at 3000 psi, but on the way back to tank, it goes through the hyd cooler, which is thin metal. Can you post a close up picture of the oil cooler. Check your manual for the oil pressure, or put a gage on it.

On the PT cooler, I think the pressure on the heat exchange would be pretty low since it's outlet is to the reservoir and the back pressure is not very much (just a guess). What do you think?

Some of the oil coolers like this, you just unscrew the oil filter, and screw on an adapter that has two hoses conected to it, and they run to the oil coller, which could be mounted where ever you like. I think I would add a fan to push or pull air across the add on cooler. It would have to be better than what you have now.

On one of my Kohler engines, they use a little oil cooler on the side of the engine. It doesn'tt look like much, but seems to be doing its job. That engine is not enclosed in a housing like the PT.

Bob, The pressure would have to be low, those radiators /coolers can't handle to much pressure. I have gages in the high pressure hyd lines, none in the low pressure side. I think the lines from the hyd cooler go directly to tank.

My diagram shows the line going directly to the tank. Makes sense to keep the cost and weight of the cooler down.
