PTO driven utility pump

Hello all. I have a '49 Farmall Cub. I use it to mow about 4 acres in the summer with a woods belly mower and then to plow snow from my driveway with a front mount snowblade in the winter. I am interested in finding a utility pump of some kind that will pump water, that is driven off the PTO shaft. Does anybody make such a thing? I know that Gravely used to offer one for their old walk behind tractors but they are no longer available. Thanks.

You can get sprayer, roller or diaphragm, pumps. Either belt drive or build a direct coupler. Soundguy may have an idea here, he has posted a lot about doing things with cubF tractors. KennyV.

You can buy a roller pump from TSC. The attached picture shows the one I bought, its a HYPRO 6500 and ran about 80 - 90 bucks. They also sell a coupler. I've used this one to irrigate and also use it to run a sprayer.

Are you looking for volume or pressure? Suction or push more important? Always clean water or dirty water?

Different pump styles handle these things differently. You need to identify which you need.

Look to ag suppliers that supply spraying supplies to farmers. You will find whichever you need, in many sizes. Generally the small roller direct drive pumps provide pressure with little suction - the belt drive offer more volume, while some of the transfer pumps (more often on a 5hp B&S engine, but you can find pto units easy enough) provide a lot of volume and better suction. And there are styles in between.

The other guys are giving you good advice. Decide what kind of pump/pumping application you will be using.. and then get that pump.. I would gues sthat direct drive using some sort of lovejoy coupler onto the pto shaft would be a decent idea. Keep in mind that if you will be doing stationary pto work, to grease that zerk right above the pto shaft. The pto bearing / seal relies ont he oil slinger on the tranny to splash lube.. when you aren't driving, grease in the fitting does the job.

Hi all -

Quick related question: what is the rotation "direction" (CW or CCW) of the rear PTO shaft - when looking at it standing behind the tractors' 3PH?

I ask this because I happen to be able to get a free (used but looks like in excellent shape) internal gear pump from an industrial machine that we are rebuilding here at my shop. (it's a European machine - so the pump is spec'd to run at 50 Hz (1450 rpm) not 60 Hz (1750 rpm) - so that's why it's available - the machine is a 2000 build year - hydraulic oil still *smells good* /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif )

The arrow on the pump shows CW rotation on the input shaft - so that means I will need CCW on the PTO shaft out of my tractor.

Is there a standard for PTO rotation direction?

I suspect my main problem will be finding a suitable spline coupling adapter to mate with my PTO - any good suppliers?

I have one part of a coupling that fits on the pump - so worst case I can weld something together - won't be pretty, though! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I'm planning on building my own log-splitter with this - should be able to get faster cylinder cycles than running directly off my rear hydraulics

It sure does. I found out real quick that the suction line needs to be "non-collapsing".

Gs i just got the same pump for my fimco sprayer the pump manual say it comes set in the counter clock wise standard position do i have to change it around for my K3130. the way i look at the PTO runs clockwise or am i turned around
