Clay, try to get it as clean as possible to be sure of the source. When you say it appears to be coming from the plug, I guess you're talking about the drain plug, and I would assume the fluid has to be the hydraulic oil (transmission fluid). Have you checked the level to see how much you're losing? If you're absolutely sure it's the plug leaking, and it's tight, then I think I would take it out, clean it, and try putting it back. Of course, that either means changing the hydraulic oil or have a helper to hold his/her thumb on the hole while you clean the plug, and it'll be a messy job.

I'll take a guess at the answer.

To my knowledge, the B2150 came with mid-PTO covers and needed them. On my B2150 (which didn't have the cover when I bought it used), the mid PTO turns anytime I am using the rear PTO. While mowing tall grass using the rear PTO, a lot of grass got wrapped around the mid PTO and did two bad things: (1) the grass heated up and started dropping off smoldering grass balls and (2) damaged the PTO seal so that I started leaking hydrostatic fluid. Fortunately the seal is cheap (<$10) and easy to change once you drain the nearly 5 gallons of fluid. I now have a cover installed.

On the newer B-series tractors (newer than the B2150) the mid-PTO operates independently of the rear PTO, so presumably an operator would not have the mid-PTO turning if it wasn't attached to anything. Therefore, the need for the mid-PTO cover is significantly reduced.

OK, with Carver's friendly help (thanks Terry), I have the following information on the mid PTO cover (dust cap) for the B2710:

The mid cover is apparently the same as on the B7100HSD.

P/N 66204-21250 ~ $6.25,
and one bolt P/N 01123-50816 ~ $0.25.

Never thought about the lack of a mid PTO cover for the BX. I have taken the deck off several times, and never even thought about it. My solution to the 50 hour dilemma is simple. I run the tractor at half to three-forths throttle and mow, 50 hours or not. Haven't noticed any problems. Guess if I was cutting foot-tall, wet, weedy growth it could be an issue, but I have a lawn. Didn't buy a sub-compact to look at for the first 50 hours /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif.

I JUST RECIEVED MY BX 2200 AND AFTER FINISHING MY MOWING I REMOVED THE BELLY MOWER FOR SOME GRADING WORK I HAVE TO DO. I WORK IN THE AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRY AND WAS ABLE TO FIND A RUBBER CAP ABOUT 2 INCHES LONG THAT WITH A PLASTIC TIE STRAP FITS THE MID PTO JUST FINE AND COVERS IT WHOLE LENGTH.
