Need to get a new PTO shaft for my Caroni flail mower. I was going to pick up at my local tractor supply.

I know I need at least 44 inch length. They carry one which they say is "metric".

Post Hole Digger Shaft, 44 in., Metric - Tractor Supply Co.

Will this work or do I need a standard shaft?

I am clueless on this one.

Here is what you need to be concerned with. the length,( 44 inches cross to cross collapsed) the fact that it is 1 3/8 on one end, which will fit your tractor of course, and it is 1 1/4 round on the other end. Will that fit your Caroni mower? There are no splines on the other end.. it is round, and you put a shear bolt thru a hole.

You will probably need to cut it, do you understand how to do that properly?

they don't mention a horsepower rating or class rating on that shaft, but if it was designed for an Auger, it should be ok on your flail. in my opinion.

I'd keep shopping. A PHD shaft is almost certainly too light duty for a flail mower (I have both). I recommend AgriSupply
