Quote"it is too hot and humid in the summer to enjoy going outside. In the winter, we get enough snow to get in a car wreck, but by the time they get you to the hospital, the snow has melted, so you have the bad parts of winter without the recreational opportunities. I like to joke about it and say we have about 2 to 4 good weeks of weather here. We have two weeks in the spring, but it is usually raining and two in the fall, but I am busy picking up leaves. Just my opinion."
A very accurate description Brian. Are you in St Marys?.

In Kentucky we have to say, "The grass is always blue-er..." :)

Great post Farmwithjunk. Luckily once you get a few miles outside of Lex and Louisville it is serious rural KY. If that's what you are looking for, there's still lots of land at great prices.

I am telling you Merrrrlenders, to go west, into VA. Now if you figure out where I live, just around this area there are some steals. The way the market is going, into next year, there will be plenty more.

We made the leap into rehabilitating an old dairy farm a few years back. It was an OK deal then, but now, well, let us just say, we are fine on paper. There are plenty of these type properties around.

Don't pass up with what is in your own back yard! I have all the comforts of ag-life, with the city being 74 miles away, from either interstate. And I'll never forget my roots.

No place is an island these days is it? Often as not, it is finding a little niche where you can fit in no matter the state. I lived in a small town in western NJ for 20 years, moving back to PA in 95'. That area has changed now too, especially since 9/11/2001. But for most of those years, it was not NJ and it was not PA.

Having grown up in the Pocono region of eastern PA, I have seen change for a long time. I live on the outskirts of most of that but I can see it coming. I would hang on for awhile but I need to get to an area where the winters are just a bit more mild.

We have our sights set on Kentucky too. We first looked at Tennessee but feel that a dollar will buy more in KY.

I like that dry heat and good eats in Texas but I dunno' about those big bugs.

My guess is near Culpepper.:D
Close...

Between Culpepper, Warrenton, Manassass and Fredericksburg. The area is still very rural, mostly ag. Between Fauquier and Culpepper counties, they "seem" to have a handle on residental growth. Unfortunate, the tank in the market helps no one, and that will push development back a few more years. People want infrastructure, and trust me it ain't out here.

A neighbor, complains about their 30 minute trip to the shopping centers. Hello?

I say 30 minutes is perfect and I can get to at least 8 Wal-Marts in "nice" shopping infrastructures in 30 minutes. That is close enough for me.

I remember a few years back when there was one Wal-Mart.

I am using that store as an example, because everyone can identitfy with it. :) :)

Well, I live in that area and it is everything you said - but I would like more hills and bit of a desert and some great lake and piece of Colorado and more like Europe and ....

Home is where I hang my hat, right?

Wall mart? the Anti Christ of small towns! We have thrown them out of our area for 5 year and still counting. If you have a small town and like the folks that run business there and are a good community helper then keep them out. That is my soap box and I am slip sliding out now on my own bubbles.
