My only fear is my parents will be SUCKERED into believing this BS.........it is really hard having older parents that are so quick to believe strangers.![]()
In this case his story shouldn't matter to you at all. Keep your eye on the prize.
I'd explain to them that recovering the Jeep is not a trivial task and that it needs to be done by a professional to avoid additional damage. Explicitly tell them that they're not permitted on the property with any more of their vehicles or with any equipment.
Get in contact with his insurance company and start to discuss the (professional) removal of the vehicle and repair/compensation for damages. If they drag their feet at all, bring up storage fees for the Jeep and environmental mitigation. But use those as bargaining chips. You don't want to end up in a battle over this, you just want your parents' fences mended, lawn reseeded, etc. A transfer case full of gear oil isn't really that big of a deal. Some of the guys on here probably change their oil by opening the drain plug in their gravel drive (I know at least one person that does). And your goal isn't to get paid for storage, it's to keep the process moving.
If you can't get anywhere with them, then it's time to talk to your insurance company. Don't even pretend to care if he was drunk, high, acting maliciously, etc. Focus on getting this fixed properly and moving on with your life.
