If it was in a federal park they would make them take it apart and transport it by horse or Mule.

I had to laugh about some of your comments. You are entertaining my EVIL side. I could use my friends D9 Cat and have a "mistake". The vehicle is a 2008 Jeep Rubicon Unlimited with a lift kit, rock slider rails on the side, big bashing bumper out front. Funny, he locked the doors before he left it too. He must be worried about vandalism. I told the Sherriff that it would roll better with it in neutral but he didn't seem to care. The guy has the key and has been told to stay away and have no contact. The police report will take 10 days, then the insurance will take time, maybe some heavy snows, might as well wait till Spring. But then you tear the ground up more...

As far as the weather here, we had a small warm spell that would make the top inch mud on top of frozen ground. Yep, would be MUCH better fully froze.

Get it published in the papers, maybe it will disappear.

The Jeep has some value but might not be enough for all damages. But if it is on your property, you can probably put a lien on it and get all your damages out of it first before neighbors get theirs. I say contact your lawyer and follow his advice.

The neighbors can follow whatever process they want to get paid for damages. You don't have to manage that. But if you end up owning the Jeep, it will be your problem to get it out. And if you want to take it out across neighbors then, you will need to get their permission and cooperation.

Good luck. Keep us posted.

I don't understand why the town is concerned at all. This is between you and the owner and his insurance if he has any. Get the insurance info. Send them a bill for everything you can think of. Don't let them have it until they pay or you come to an agreement. If there is enough damage get a lawyer. Probably gonna cost $200 an hour though for a good one.

We got one that would be al lover this like stink on dog poo.

The town isn't really involved yet. The sheriff called the Town at 2am to find out who the land owner was where the jeep is sitting. The jeep had been trespassing on land (100's of acres)that belongs to that town board member. They were going to investigate to see if there was damage back there today.

The town comment came from someone's experience in a similar situation where the town did damage to the land to get out a vehicle and refused to own up to the damage.

The Jeep has some value but might not be enough for all damages.

An '08 Rubicon is worth somewhere in the neighborhood of $20,000 in "Good Condition" according to KBB.com. I used 50k miles as the mileage estimate. Hard to tell what condition it's in now from the picture. But, depending on when the owner bought it and what kind of mods he's done to it (looks like maybe flat fenders, custom bumper, lift, etc.), he's got a LOT into it.

Whoever owns it is going to want it back. Jeep owners are crazier about their vehicles than tractor owners are about their tractors. Hopefully all of the property owners get properly compensated for the damages. And I agree that contacting an attorney is probably money well spent. Good luck with it!

ruffdog.
As a former Public Safety Diver and having recovered (yes) planes, trains, boats and automobiles from underwater on both public and private lands you need to start with the owners insurance company. Our team billed the insurance companies for our cost and the tow company charge theirs separately.
Make sure you have an agreed upon price with the insurance company and agreements with the other landowners.
If the police are asking you to retrieve it then you should have some liability protection from said gov. agency.

If the owner is requesting get the fee in writing and signed by his/her insurance company.
In the pic it looks like you could free it from the tree and drive it out.

Good luck.
