Purchasing a Grapple...Which one??

That is the price I got but had to add another $125 for shipping then the other $ was for hoses with couplers to run back to the rear remotes. I have a coupler in position so that if I want to remove the complete loader frame I don't have to remove the line from the remote to the middle of the tractor.

I like the long grapple but I VERY MUCH DISSLIKE having had to go through a dealer to buy it. First it was hard to find a dealer in my area and the ones I checked within a 100 mile radius had prices all over the place. I ended up paying about $100 more than my lowest quote but only had to travel 15 miles from home to get it. Although my tractor lives 200 miles from my home, but there wasn't any dealers near there either.

I agree with you Dknarnd. WR Long would probably sell a lot more products if he did not lock himself into using dealers. Markham Welding does their own thing and the prices and value are great. I checked with 2 dealers and the prices were about the same for the grapple. These guys talk to each other on a daily basis and it think they are in kahoots. I guess I could have driven 50 more miles. I am paying $1800 including hoses.

I picked up my WR Long grapple today. Here's a few pics of it after I got the hoses/couplers hooked up. It is a good fit on the Quick Attach. I will give it a workout in the next few days and give opinions/tips...

Nice unit but it looks like it spit up a little. What have you been feeding it?

Claykin, It took around 2 1/2 or 3 weeks. I think WR Long must not have a lot of built ones in stock. They probably build them as they are ordered. The hoses were the right length, too. I can roll the grapple all the way down and the hoses have a little slack left. WR Long has gotten it all figured out, I suppose.

Wedge, Yes it did spit up a little. One of the hose connections to a cylinder was loose. When I hooked it up and opened the jaws, it sprayed hydraulic fluid out. I sprayed things down with "Gunk" and hosed it off.

So...moral of the story for you all getting new grapples...take a couple crescent wrenches and go over all the connections and connectors before you try her out.

Great set up - any pics of the hydraulic connections from the grapple to your tractor? Did you specify the hose length from the grapple?

Thanks,
Brad

You will probably still have to retighten the hoses throughout a good grapple workout. They seem to have a way of coming undone...

One minor problem I have had with my WR Long 60" grapple was one time I was crushing up brush and a piece came through the top of the grapple and knocked the hydraulic tee loose. A little bit of fluid later and a few wrenches and I was back in business. I am going to put a little piece of angle there to protect the hoses etc. I think I may need to protect the hydraulic cylinder hoses from wear against the frame of the top of the grapple. I thought about black radiator hose over the lines . Any ideas???
