Put My Chains on Yesterday - The Easy Way

I've been running chains for 30 years with an abundance of rubber straps, never lost a chain and they are tight. Without the rubber straps the chains are loose and slap the heck out of the fenders.

I run my Talons, OFA's and TRYGG's somewhat loose, I get the middle chains as snug as I can by hand and then using the cam locks tighten the inside and outside using the same link spacing and then I use no tensioner at all after a week or two If they seem excessively loose I may try to get a link on the inside and outsides keeping them even.
Once I quit using the 2 or 4 link space standard style chains I quit with the tensioners.

The installation instructions for my OFA Eko 8 chains call for leaving slack in the chains They show easily fitting a fist in between the tire and the chains. As recommended by the manufacturer. I don't use any form of tensioner or bungies on those chains.

It took me a while to get used to not using tensioners, since I had always used them on my ladder and Duo-Grip chains. However, they have been working perfectly.

Visited this thread today. Gotta put the chains on the Deere since pushing the built-up snow the last few days had me sliding too much. It's got the power, but not the traction...

I've not put 'em on in a year and a refresher course is always helpful. uTube rabbit hole bound.

I jack the rear of the tractor up in the heated garage, layout the chains behind the tractor and spin the wheels be hand, pulling the chains on as I spin the tire. Easy peasy.

Once upon a time I'd simply throw the chains on the top of the tire, but those days are long gone. I'm running double rings, they easily weigh 100#+ each.
I have been using rear tire chains for several years on my BX25D. I bought an extra set of used front and rear wheels recently. I am considering putting the tire chains on the spare set of wheels, then just changing the wheels in the Fall and Spring. This will eliminate the need to crawl under the tractor to hook up the inside of the chains. I think it will be faster to just change the tires too.

I have been doing this for a couple of years, and it sure beats putting chains on every fall. The wheel swap is quicker and easier, especially on the BX series because of the small tires.

Thanks for verifying the idea 07wingnut. I put the chains on the extra tires in about ten minutes yesterday. Nice to do while standing up and using a workmate as a working surface. Swapped the tires out this morning. Only casualty was the half inch impact gun socket adapter. Snapped it in two trying to get the tires off. What are you running to clear snow in BC? I am using the BX2755HD front blower. Very happy with it so far.

Been using the 2750 snowblower for 8 years and it works very well. I did modify it to an electric chute rotator and electric deflector control.

NO NO NO!
I am not putting the chains on as it is not going to snow this winter! 🙏
Put mine on early this year because I got robbed of tractor seat time last winter.
