Putting on 3PT Implements

I also use to pull and tug and kick to get mine on. However, I found that by setting the implements on small pieces of 2x6 and using another piece of 2x6 by about 5' long as a pry bar, it becomes a very simple matter to line up and slide the arms over the pins. No more kicking or hammering. The ground doesn't even have to be particularly level to do this.
I cut several pieces of 2x6 about a foot long so that I always have them ready to set the implement on when I take it off.

Not sure what other guys do, I learned to attach implements by trial and error. I always connect the top link first. With my box blade that allows me to tilt it forward a bit to get the rear portion off the ground. Then I can wrestle it around a bit to connect the lift arms. But you guys are right, sometimes it goes on in five minutes and sometimes I have to wrestle and hammer and cuss for half an hour. /w3tcompact/icons/mad.gif

I don't have first hand experience with this but I've heard that it is best to have a separate tractor for each implement. /w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif

I have a 2 axle, non ganged 6' disc... now that is a monster to put on..... it mostly won't sit level.. and hte 10 blades dig in good.. hard to scooch... Takes a 4' pry bar, a hammer, grunts and choice words...
One thing I have done is to make a custom set of pins for my tractor.. all have beveled fronts, and are ground to a smaller diameter in the front... eases entry into holes that ( usually) aren't lined up completely.

My wife does it for me...

Right after she finishes cooking your breakfast, washing your dishes, doing your laundry, feeding the animals, mucking the stalls, tutoring all of the children in the neighborhood, and feeding the world's hungry, right?/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif/w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

I set my boxblade (heavy) on level ground and on some corrugated steel. - keeps it out of the water/mud and lets me push it a little bit. - it slides on that metal a whole lot easier than on dirt.

I have come up with a system that works well for me.

1) Look at project and decide which implement I need.
2) Decide "No I can't do it with just the FEL"
3) Back tractor to implement.
4) Decide I am not lined up straight enough.
5) Repeat Step 3.
6) Repeat Step 4.
7) Start sweraing.
8) Finally satisfied I'm lined up.
9) Set parking break and lower FEL.
10) Find tractor has drifted foward while I was doing Step 9.
11) Back tractor again and repeat Step 9.
12) Repeat Steps 10, 11, and 7
13) Get off tractor and fiddle with 3ph raise/lower to line up lower arms.
14) Find out raising/lowering arms has messed up alignment front to back.
15) Start swearing violently.
16) Use 6 ft. section of pipe to "horse" implement into posistion.
17) Use above pipe and hammer to get "#$@&*&$" lower arms to slide on pin on one side.
18) Find out other side is know to low/high to line up pin and hole.
19) Repeat Steps 13 thru 17 on other side.
20) Adjust toplink to line up with hole on implement.
21) Pinch finger putting Toplink pin in.
22) Repeat step 15
23) Raise implement and adjust the level right to left and up and down.
24) At this point I'm to tired and frustrated to do project, so I go and drink a beer and dream up other projects.

Hope this helps.

P.S Just kidding, I usually back up and use the pipe to line the implement up, hook up and go.

Ed,

You made a believer out of me; I'm going for the iMatch and I'll MAKE it work. Or....Maybe I should just cancel my tractor order! This is the best post yet for shelling out money for a quicktach system of some kind. Maybe JD, LandPride and the others will pay you for some marketing expertise.
