I see I will be going against the grain here but, I gotta do it. The one closest to me, in Lancaster, Ohio was never really what you would call "cheap". The prices were actually kind of high, maybe it was a location thing. They had some of the stuff you couldn't find somewhere else but, it wasn't cheap. The few TSC's I have been in seemed to have better prices.

I asked at my local Quality if they would be re-opening and they said yes. But, not until mid-May, because the current store is too big and they have to remodel and cut it in half.

Having never been in one of the TSC stores, has anybody got any idea what they carry and what they're like?

Yep, but the list would be too long to include here. Try <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.tractorsupplyco.com>http://www.tractorsupplyco.com</A> for some idea; everything from plumbing, hardware, tools, tractor implements to clothing./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif As for what they're like . . ., it seems to me the older stores have some very knowledgeable employees and the newer stores have some newer employees who haven't gotten familiar with the merchandise yet. However, all 4 stores that I visit have friendly folks who are easy to get along with.

At a fire company banquet this evening part of the conversation was the CT/Quality Farm... situation. According to what was said and notices observed in the windows at the stores, the Cortland and Auburn (NY) stores will be reopening as TSC. That's a welcome sound to me!

I don't know; never seen one of the Quality stores, so I don't know what size they are./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif I was in the Waco TSC this past week. They recently moved into a bigger building and increased the size of their inventory; not a small store by any means.

It's good to hear they are basically the same as Quality. The town I work in has just lost the largest hardware store in several counties. Been in business for 50 years at the same location. Can't compete with Meijer, Walmart and Depot. With Quality gone, that Hardware store was the best bet for a lot of things. With the new tractor store coming, at least we'll have some choice over Depot and Walmart.

It is amazing what you can learn on this forum. There has been a chain of TSC stores in Southern Ontario for years. I always thought it was a small local outfit. However from looking at the links from this thread it appears the local TSCs are part of the US network - the logo is the same but I have never seen them called anything but TSC - maybe I haven't read the fine print. Anyway, they are interesting stores and often have items that no others stores have. Thanks for the info.

Just got back from our local Quality Farm. Only three days left and they are touting 60-90% off. Trouble is, there is basically nothing left. A rack of odd sized jeans, a rack of rather nasty looking boots and some other bits and pieces. The staff seemed rather casual about the whole affair.

So I guess I've made my last stop there. Too bad, I got some good deals there over the years /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

They told me they were going to re-open the Vestal store sometime this spring, before June, at about 1/2 the square footage of the current store. Based on other posts, that seems to be the strategy with stores over a certain size. In the end, it looks as if the TSC store will be about the same size that Central Tractor was before Quality bought them and moved locations! I agree with JMIII - if Quality hadn't managed them into bankruptcy, they'd probably still be here today! I don't know what a TSC store is like, and I'm sure I'll enjoy shopping there, but I would still be happy today if we had the old CT back!!
