Question for the rock and gravel guys

That looks like limestone. IF in fact it is, you should wet it down and then roll the he!! out of it. It will harden right up.
It's light colored due to a light coat of dust, but it's trap rock / basalt. We have lots of it, here.

Are you going to top-coat it with anything? or is it just for tractor passage?

Last load of stone I got was over 50k:confused2:

It's a fairly short driveway to a detached garage where the 2 newer tractors sleep, so only our own, low speed, car & tractor traffic.
I may get some finer, mixed size rock and top dress, if it needs it.

50K? Is that pounds of rock or dollars?

Since you have clay as a base it can and will ooze out to the surface.
That is one of the ideal situations for GEOTEXTILE as it will allow water to pass but not the clay.

That was weight.

Limestone. Somewhere around $400. I think it was $16 or $17 a ton

Gregfender has gotten the advice that he needed. But here's a funny story for us "rock & gravel guys".

I had bought several tons of ornamental rock (pebbles 1-3 inch) to put around the foundation of the house. It was a beautiful color and looked so cool. Thus I thought it would be cool to use for a place to park my trailer....so I hauled in some more and spread it out.

:grumpy: "Not Cool"....I had to FEL it all away because it makes and unusable surface for even walking. .... like being in quick sand.:hissyfit:

Around here, you would use 304's for base. They are 2" down to fines and pack hard. Then top with either 411's (1" down to fines) or 57's (1" washed). Sometimes I add 411's to reshape, and then top dress with #8 for a quiet smooth surface.

We use #2 for the base and then #57 or #8 for the top coat.
