RAIN Finally!

   / RAIN Finally! #21
I live fairly close to TexasJohn and received about five inches and was proud to get it. Our ranch is near Lampasas and I can't remember the last rainfall we had there. The stock tank has been steadily declining... we went down last Sunday to feed the fish and only found a puddle. I'm pretty sure most, if not all the new fish are history.... This rainfall came a week late for us...

We got about 5-1/2" total. As usual, the weathermen got it wrong for the area east of me where Bird lives. They were saying 1" to 2" of rain there and those folks got 6" to 10" and several tornadoes. Ours was very nice rain over 24 hours that filled all our ponds and lakes. All my field grass that was brown two weeks ago is now as green as can be. We had one small rain a week ago and now this 5+ inches has made everything really green up quickly. My yard and garden are happy and so am I since my daily watering chores are over.:)

Oh yes. . . My wife went to the garden yesterday afternoon and picked 6 lb of okra. For dinner last night we had fried okra (whole pod battered and dipped) and I grilled corn on the cob. Some pan cooked ham steak and cornbread rounded out our dinner. Yum!:D

Half an inch the first day and a tenth of an inch the second day. Both rains came from cells that came over me, and lasted about fifteen minutes each day. Lots of warnings and predictions from the weather guys, but none were even close.

Anything is better then nothing, and with what Bird received, that's just too much!!!!

Hope everything is ok there and you don't have any damage

Eddie, our property is "relatively" level, but does slope off slightly to the south. North of us is uphill, so rain up there runs down on us, but then also slowly runs off to the south (if it doesn't soak in). So I don't even see a puddle in our yard today. No damage; the yard just got well watered.:) I heard, after I bought this place, that this area used to flood and the government shows it as "moderate risk" so, even though mortgage companies do not require flood insurance, I bought it myself. Since then, we've been told by neighbors who have lived here a long time that the third house south of us, and those on south from there, have flooded in the past, but it never got this far north. The lady at the corner, whose property adjoins the big major drainage ditch for the area, told my wife yesterday that they were getting worried, but it didn't get to their house.
