It's not that I don't feel comfortable. It's you don't need to push equipment to its limits all the time. The point I'm trying to make is if you are going to tow more than 10,000 lbs more than a few times a year short distance don't do it with a maxed out half ton. Have some safety margin. It's not all about you. You need to make sure you aren't endangering other people on the road to stroke your my half ton is the baddest in the land ego.

Those numbers look pretty low considering the delivered trucks yellow sticker is almost always significantly lower yet.

Those are even lower than I expected. I wonder if this is why the Ram truck guy jumped ship. Maybe he saw the direction they were headed and wanted no part of it. A true truck design team, engineer, or anyone with a career in trucks would never be in favor of these poor specs.

I had the same thought about this being the reason Dmace left. I enjoyed going back and forth with him. It was nice to see him back a few weeks ago (new user name) to find out that he was banned from the site. He was also doing a lot of praying that the ecoboost would be a flop and fail miserably.

I want Ram to get this issue addressed and be successful because they have an innovative drive that is greater than the rest.

You really believe the manufactures have the tow ratings set at the trucks limits? If so this explains everything. I bet they have a 30 to 50% safety margin built in to keep the lawyers away and the warranty claims at a manageable level.

That is not who I was talking about :D
Although Dmace was passionate about his views.

Thats because he knew who would put a proper diesel engine in a 1/2 ton truck with real capabilities.

Remember, Dodge Ram and Nissan were working on a joint venture for trucks prior to Chrysler going bankrupt. Nissan backed out when they went belly up. This is where the Cummins Nissan relationship all started.

My guess is in 5 to 10 years Ram will no longer have a Cummins engine in any of its trucks. Fiat will ruin Ram in the end and Cummins will sell engines to everyone like Nissan, Ford, Toyota, ect.

If it wasn't for Cummins Dodge or Ram or whatever you want to call them would not even be mentioned in the same breath as Ford or GM.

Chris

You want to bet your families life and everybody else's family on the road with that theory?
Everything is built to minimum spec to save weight and money. To just make it a few hours and days past warranty if used to spec.
If it's rated for 10,000 lb then it rated for 10,000lbs.

I can imagine VM diesel making a V8 version of the 3.0L V6. With 4.0L 360HP to a 5.6L making 400HP . For the pickup truck market. Those engines already exist with that bore, stroke, combustion chamber design in 3,4 and 6 cylinder engines. Doesn't take very much imagination to add a few cylinders.
Maybe the safety nannies in the EPA will being to limit HP in vehicles for "our own good"? They eliminated CO, HC and NOX. Surprise manufactures solved that challenge. The EPA discovered diesel particulates and regulated those too. Alas those pesky engineers solved that problem too. Now the EPA has had to dream up CO2 as a problem to justify their empire. The epa has to find another crisis to regulate.

One word for you Explorer. Do you know all the things they did wrong that caused that fiasco.
