Any ways... anybody been watching the NHL playoffs? Seen a couple good fights.

Did they have a pickle barrel?

That's what I equate these forums to.

Nope. Pickles were in a big 2 gallon glass jar.

Two gas pumps out front under a pole light -- Regular and Hi-Test. Often pumped $2 or $3 worth and that would keep people rolling for a week or so.

Red cube-shaped tank for coal oil under the overhang of the front porch with a hand crank pump.

Pepsi machine out front. Big horizontal pop machine just inside the front door with the sliding doors on top.

Hitching post on one end of the lot for the few that still rode in.

Cigarettes were about 25 cents per pack.

We'd slice jowl bacon and deli meats to order.

It was a lot of fun!

Sounds a lot like the old store that used to be at the old crossroads close to Ma and Pa's place. It was built right upto the side walk and the maindoor was at an angle to the corner.
Old pop machine just outside humming away. Store stuffed floor to ceiling with everything.
If you couldn't find it just ask the old owner. He knew where everything was even if you had to move 17 items to get at it.
If you got an ice cream cone the size wasn't based on the size you ordered but by how much he liked you.
If I just grabbed a broom and swept his sidewalk for 10 minutes mine was on the house... and huge.
Dust was everywhere.
Old guys gathered around talking crops, tractors, weather, the new cars coming out and what would they think of next?

If the OP had the ability to delete off subject posts, this could be stopped.

Some years ago, I posted in the land and garden section "I'm looking at a X brand battery powered mower, who here has used one?" and seen some good replies, while some just posting gibberish.` Then one guy posted "are you looking at this purchase as a religious or a political statement?" which I would have deleted if I had the ability to. The thread fell in a wasteland of !*^# and I left it. Some folks just can't control themselves and need to have there posts monitored or control in some way.

I've started a few threads, and later just left it because of the unfriendly or worthless gibberish fill thread it became.
Type A.

I POSTED a question about a cub cadet. Posted in that area. I figured there would be some response, but nothing. I like to help people with their stuff, but if its my stuff, placed in the correct area I GET NOTHING.
What's a cub cadet? 😊 JK

So, you want something that actually sets TBN above/seperate from other forums; add a button "Summurize thread content", that gives a reader a 1 paragraph AI summary of the thread. That way, if you click on the thread, and its already at 90 responses in a day; the new reader can have a general idea of the response content, without going through all 90 (in some cases nearly 4000) individual responses.

Is it ironic to anyone else that someone has deleted Arlya's post about being able to delete posts? Maybe he did?

I've seen the irony in his posts for years.

If he can't control a discussion from start to finish, he gets all pushy with an attitude.

Why do you think he has me on ignore...he can't control me so he has to ignore me. I bet he has the highest number of people on ignore.

I've found ArlyA's threads very informative even though his mission in life and his choice of machinery is totally different than mine.
I apply that logic to most everyone's messages. While their suggestions, likes, and methods are often times foreign to my thinking, other viewpoints are very valuable.
The only ones that I object to are those that are totally off-topic and/or so opinionated without logic. For those, my Delete or Block button works just fine.

Nobody is saying his threads arn't informative. I actually enjoy his cabin one.

The problem you are missing is conflating information with abrasion. There can be both...in the same space.

The only issue with the OP deleting posts is ticking off people who may otherwise be a good person but something just came out wrong. Or a jerk's thread and deleting the good guy posts. Instant conflict and Little Kings everywhere..

Granted, we have some cranks here but the system generally polices itself because the good guys ignore or don't respond to the bad posters. A few jerks slip by but maybe that's a small price to pay?

I don’t like the Op being able to delete posts in “their” thread idea.
Too possible to turn into an echo chamber.
Hypothetical example: Someone who works at a brand X dealership starts a thread stating brand X is the best. Any following comments challenging that could be deleted. Not good

“Related Topics “ is certainly broadly redundant with quite a few other forums here. Could do some consolidation around that one
