I believe I am making my own life miserable by using a bucket to deal with roots and rocks when operating my AGT Q16R 2200-pound excavator, so I want to try a ripper tooth.

I see these things priced all over the place. AGT wants $320. Amazon and Ebay people go much lower. Does it really matter which one I get? Some look pretty bad, but on the other hand, there are a whole bunch that look nice and sturdy.

As a 9 month MiniX user, I sure don't pretend to be an experienced operator, but with my 3200-3500lb machines (TT XIX and Bull 18-X), I found the ripper not the best for stumps, roots and rocks. Not sure if you were using the typical 16-17 inch tooth bucket, but I found my 8 inch toothed trencher bucket gives the best compromise for breaking up roots, working through rocks and being able to get just enough engagement with dirt to get the jobs done. The ripper I have (and, structurally, they all look about the same to me) was good for breaking through roots, but would not alllow dirt to be broken up and removed around the areas I was attacking.
Quick search on EBay shows ripper like I have should be no more than $100. 8 inch toothed bucket, about $150.
BTW, for what it's worth, the Huyaee brand attachments I purchased piece-meal seem to be a higher quality. Thicker edges and cast vs plate steel side edges. The one in the photo is $175 at the Huyaee site. I payed $150.

Watch the pin spacing on some of them. After I sold my 1-ton and let go the rock ripper I had bought for it I simply bought the cheapest one on Ebay I could find that had the pin spacing to allow my spring loaded quick connect hitch to work with it. ~$90.

These rippers are not all that good on roots but for digging out rocks during hard trenching they are helpful. I adapted a BX Expanded root ripper for my 1-ton and kept it and now use it with my 2-ton.

I have the standard bucket. Any root over an inch thick is likely to stop it, and it's hard to get it between hard objects. I was thinking a ripper would be better at pulling up roots and breaking things up in tight places.

Wow, that's quite a markup.

I love my ripper. I used it to help with my trails. I have so many rocks, it loosens them up and just pushes them sideways with dirt instead of using a bucket. Also for roots, but adding a serrated edge to the inner curve would be a great improvement.

Original cost for me was only $60 with my machine, and my extra ones I sold locally for $90, to buyers with small branded minis.

So it kind of looks like I will be just fine with a $100 ripper.
