Recommendations wanted - 9 foot plow project

Wow. Hmmm... Not you got me thinking. Good to see that someone is actually using a 9 foot with the same tractor.
Give it a shot. With it already modified for a tractor I bet it would be easy so sell if it doesn't work out plus usually the second time around building one you will be able to "dial it in" a little.

This is how i did mine. I use the chain for floating. Using the loader on float is no good, (too much weight). I use the rear remotes for the angle. The plow is 7.5 ft.

Very nice!! I like how you got the plow closer to the FEL. I would love to see a picture of the unit unattached. If you think of it next time you remove it that would be GREAT!

I push a 9ft fisher with 60hp and 4 ice chains, I have to agree with everyone that thinks its a bad idea.
Ether way here is a frame mounted set up that was mentioned earlier

9 foot is way too wide. Ok for light snow up to maybe 3" but as soon as you have a load up front it will push you sideways.
If you plan to use a plow angled 6 with maybe 7 would be max.
Even 8' on a 3/4 ton 4 x 4 GMC Diesel was often a problem, especially in wet snows, and that is considered the ideal plow.
I would not suggest more than 6' on your tractor.

With a truck we plow fast and curl the snow off to the sides. It flies. With a tractor speed is really not an option as suspensions are just not there. You'd be asking for trouble.

Now big and wide straight push with big side ears (no angling) like in clearing big parking lots would be a different matter.
Your nine footer would be handy but you would need to add lots of weight for traction.

Here is my eight footer with wings which gets me out to 9' 10".

The plow weighs plenty for back dragging. I don't chain the fronts but do use the split brakes to steer into the bank when needed.
I use the third function which is fed off one of the rear remotes and have found that I need to add a crossover relief valve to reduce blown hoses from hitting fixed objects with the leading side of the plow.
If you decide to swap down I'd be interested in your nine footer if the price is fair.

I think you are going to want to use the chain for floating.

There was a post on here a few months ago about someone (94bullit maybe??) wanting to modify a plow to be chain floating cause it was taking too much weight off the front tires.

And not sure how much snow you get up there, but I would also give the 9' a shot. R1 tires would help, as would chains. Not sure what tires you have? But if you had a 6 or 7 I bet you would be wishing for more. I ahve a L3400, which is similar in size but a few hundred pounds lighter. My 7' rear blade can push a helluva pile of wet heavy snow with no issues at all in reverse. Forward has more traction. I have no doubt you will be fine. And after the first pass, you can always take a smaller bite. But you cannot take a larger bite if you sacrifice and go to a smaller plow.

That's a nice tight set-up ,gets the plow closer to the tractor.I think the guys that float the FEL are plowing mostly paved drives/roads where you want a lot of down pressure. If doing dirt/gravel the Plow Float seems to work better.

Nice setup Rayclar. The way you have it you get to float with the chain but I see you can also make some down pressure if you want can't you? That's best of both worlds. I will probably mimic your setup for sure!! Thanks for sharing!
