Regret a cab tractor?

The only regret I have with a cab tractor, relates to low tree limbs. After several minor hits, I went and trimmed most of the trees on my lot that could pose any future damage. Took over three days work with chainsaw and a polesaw to create paths and safe areas for my cab. Have not had any problems now for two full years.

I think you would be hard pressed to find anyone regretting a cab while snow blowing. I had an open station for two winters. A cab was a game changer for me.

I have a open station, insulated jump suit, boots, gloves, and full face ski mask for snow plowing.

Cutting my 50 acres twice a year in Missouri june and august, I am 100% Happy I have a cabbed tractor.

Cab helps a lot when you brush cut the wasps nest or when the snow flies.

I have one of each. Since getting the cabbed tractor I've been putting 100+ hours a year on it...it is such a pleasure to use that I'm always thinking up tasks for it to do. The open station is rarely used these days. No regrets getting the tractor with a cab!

I have a cab on mine and my neighbor has an open station. I snow blow with the radio on in a tee shirt and he is so covered up he can't move.(been there.Done that!)
In the summer he is dripping sweat and actually passed out from the heat one time. He already told me if I ever move he is taking my tractor no matter the cost I charge!

I only regret not getting a cab sooner

My only regret is that having a cab has made more work for me by forcing me to limb the trees I mow around far enough up that I don’t beat my cab to death!!

On the other hand maybe I should just not mow those areas

To go along with the pole saw comments, I would add check your shed clearance if you want to store it inside. I upgraded my little 755 John Deere to a New Holland TC40 with an after-market sunshade bolted to the roll bar. I didn't check the clearance until the tractor was parked in front of the shed. Now the sunshade sits against the shed wall and the roll bar is flipped down so the tractor can be parked in the shed. If it had a cab, it would be parked outside all the time. This does give me an excuse to build a bigger shed...

True but it's not the HP people end up regretting, it's the size they're stuck with afterwards.

No regrets on the cab. Cool in the summer, warm in the winter. No bugs, no dust in my nose or grit in my teeth. And I don't have to worry about nasty little sweat bees if I run over one of their ground nests!

Just to mention ....... I have two open cab and the only time I get jealous of those with the cabs is when I pass someone clearing snow .... in a blizzard ..... in their T shirt.

I've been on a search this year for a 4WD tractor and was on a path to an open station version. Various members on TBN have swayed me to the cab version and I'm almost there. With 4WD I believe I will use the tractor year round instead of storing it during the winter like I do with the JD 2020. Just to give me a view of something I haven't thought of, has anyone gone back to an open station after getting a cab tractor?

I love my cab. It keeps the flies off me, It has AC and heat. It keeps the weather off me. and it is great noise protection.
I can see it being a hassle if you are on and off the tractor really often like 10 times in a half hour. But I can leave the door open if I want.

The only real downside to a cab that I can see is it's not great for working in the woods. you'd need to do some serious management of low hanging branches or they'd be a constant challenge.

Confirmation bias, and I'm cheap, but I enjoy the open-air chores in the summer enough that I tolerate using the open station to blow snow in the winter. I don't make my living with the tractor, so summer chores (blading, mowing, firewood, moving stuff around) can be scheduled when the weather is nicer. In the winter I only use it when I have to, to move snow or tow somebody out of the ditch. I sometimes come in looking like the abominable snowman, but, if nothing breaks, I can be done in an hour or hour and a half so I made the open station choice again with my most recent purchase. I don't think I could tolerate being cooped up in the summer.

Also my shelter belt overhangs the pasture on 2.5 sides, and I trim that up enough to get underneath with the roll bar down. I'd have to remove a lot more branches to move a cab tractor around inside my fence, and trees grow pretty slow up here.

I'd only had the new Kioti for less than a week when I reversed it into the shed with the door open. There's not a lot of room each side of the tractor, and the shed post and the door handle came together. The crunch of breaking plastic caught my attention!

The impact ripped out the lower mounting bolt moulding inside the handle, but with time, steel plates, small bolts and 5-minute epoxy, it's back to full function. I shudder to think of the difficulty (and cost) in getting a new handle.

So now, even out in the open paddock, I ALWAYS close the door before moving, forward or reverse. Good habit to get in to.

I heard about the door mishaps of others, so upon receipt of my cab tractor I resolved to ALWAYS close the door before moving, or even starting the tractor.

I’ve been tempted to shortcut, but so far, at least, have avoided the slippery slope.

Both my wife’s Jeep and my Ram, on the other hand, automatically apply the electric parking brake if you attempt to back up with the door open. A little frustrating at first, but, overall, a good safety feature.

For winter tractors, we have one with a cab and one open station - but the open station does have a nice insulated 4 post canopy. Both are 4wd.

I'll bite. What is an insulated four post canopy?

Having trouble seeing the advantage of whatever this may be, although I do know that the canopy will keep the snow off the operator somewhat.
