I worry about much more than falling the tree. Anytime the guy is on your land you could be liable. Cut his leg with the saw, hurt his back loading his truck, step into a bee hive, there are people that set this up as a scam just waiting for someone to let them onto their land.

Call your insurance company and ask them. They should be familiar with state liability waivers and also will be familiar with your exposure, theirs too.

As always the great minds of TBN gives me something to think about. Right now I am leaning to pass on this. I appreciate all of the food for thought.
Thanks, Dave

Dave,

I've had guys out here to take wood for free. For me, it's a huge help in getting rid of it. What they don't take, I have to put in the burn pile, so the more they take the better. Of course, I've found that people who get free wood are not very reliable and have a problem doing what they say they will.

When somebody asks me for wood, I say yes, but you better get it quick, because I'm gonna burn it real soon and I'm not waiting for you. Most of the time they never show up.

I take my trees down with the roots and all, so stumps are never a problem. What they leave behind is the easy to burn and it saves me allot of effort. It's your land, you decide, but I'd be happy if more people showed up to take the free wood I have.

Eddie

I have a guy looking at 4 hugh pine trees in my yard . He says if he can fall the trees that he will cut the trees for the wood & I clean up ( not many limbs on these pines). If he has to cut the top out of the trees b -4 he falls the tree then , he will charge only for cutting the tops out

I had a bad experience letting someone do this on my property. I clearly marked the trees they were allowed to cut with bright orange flagging. They cut down many others that were not marked. When I politely confronted them about this, they abandoned the job, leaving ~40 trees on the ground, and two more standing with felling notches cut in them. It took me two years to clean up the mess. Lesson learned the hard way. Never, ever again.

I could drop them, but if I go ahead and drop them I might as well finish it up. I do know some people down the street that I have given the wood to before. They are always happy to see the tractor pull up to their house with a heaping load of firewood on the 16' trailer. About 2 months ago, I took them 5 loads that were on average 3 to 4' tall on the trailer. The man said he was going to get his sons out and rent a splitter and make a weekend of it. I would hate to have someone take down the wrong trees, my wife and I have been thining out the "scrub oaks" oaks and keeping the red and whites. Those are some GREAT tree's, good shape, strong and they do not get as many dead spots as some of the scrubs. I think I'll pass on this one, thanks for ALL of the input, I really apreciate it.
