Doug, I just talked to a mechanic for an excavating company with 30 excavators. He uses a BFH.

And I'll bet he is a healthy young 280 pound weight-lifting gorilla!!! :D

What does one do when they are a short, chubby, overweight, semi-handicapped, half-blind, partly-senile old man??? :(

I have used that tool and smaller versions for pin removal. The smaller one makes short work on driveshaft u-joints. I also have ball joint and tie rod forks for the air hammer. Mine is a Chicago Pneumatics CP-717

Your CP717 has a bigger shank (.498) than my CP715 (.401) and this particular bit... but yes, this tool is specifically made for U-joints and ball joints. In fact, I could have used this tool a month or so ago when I replaced a ball joint on the hideous old econobox.

Well, it may be funny, but... sadly and unfortunately... it's also mostly true. The poor old man just ain't what he used to be... so THANK THE GOOD LORD for pneumatic, hydraulic and electric-powered tools! :)

Yep, that is a long stroke gun, I think that will be about as good as it gets with the .401 shank

You could always make one up for that Bosh Brute you have :) I would hate to try and hold it sideways though. :)

Yeah, the electric jack hammer could make very short work of any stuck pin... provided I could find a flat bit, make some sort of guide or template... and then get two other people to hold it steady in the horizonal position. ;)

Let's just hope it doesn't ever come down to that! :D

re; the air hammer by Chi_Car_ GO Pee_Nu_Matic at Sears.

I think Harbor Freight Carries Chic_Pnue, probably at $ears/2 or $ears/3 prices.

I'd try my regular litul air hammer first, maybe with a bit of brass billet in between.

FWIW, etc.

Edit; Just checked that $ears tool, at $60 it is probably the lightweight HF item at
about $20 ;end edit.

Now don't go confusing "Chicago Pneumatic" with "Central Pneumatic"!!! :D

That being said, HF can be a hard place to beat when cheap Chinese crap is all you need and can afford.

We've all been there... even moi!!!

And yes, I know that a lot of respected brands and models are now made in China too. :( It will be the death of me. :(
