Repair/mechanic tricks and or tips?

I guess Stabil is guarding their trade secrets? My bottle of Stabil doesn't say "gasoline" stabilizer; it says "fuel" stabilizer, but then eventually says to use in 2 and 4 cycle engines in (and it names nearly every kind of gasoline engine you can imagine) gasoline, gas/oil mix, and ethanol mix. Diesel isn't mentioned one way or the other.

No "ingredients" list is included, although of course it says it contains a Petroleum Distillate (CAS 64742-53-6) and to call physician immediately if you drink it. Is the physician supposed to know what Petroleum Distillate (CAS 64742-53-6) is or is the treatment the same for just any Petroleum Distillate?

Well the "horse's mouth" frequently doesn't have a clue what he's talking about in my experience:D

The Stabil Horse's Mouth may or may not be right...wish I still had access to the Mass Spectrometer and other chemical analysis gear I had access to back in the late 70's;)

As I said I wouldn't use it but I'm not going to expend any effort trying to convince someone else not to use it :D

I have noticed that Stabil has different part numbers and different ingredients over the years. The MSDS sheets are different as they are for different years where the bottles have different part numbers such as 1104, 1108 etc. Their proprietary ingredient is 5% and the other 95% varies from year to year. I went to their website to look up the latest MSDS and you must register first and explain why you want it. I didn't bother. Some of the old MSDS say they are for diesel also and some don't mention diesel, just gas and gas mixtures.

Stabil is pretty good. I switched to Seafoam and use that as Stabil also. Plus todays gas is terrible. I use Seafoam when I refill the gas can too.

Do a repair and replace I apply anti-seize on nuts and bolts. especially in Wisconsin! I use it on brake caliper pins too.

My mind is made up, don't confuse me with the facts. I use STABIL in diesel.

If you want to continue the discussion with the STABIL folks you can google STABIL and go to their web site and click the email or contact them link.

Historical info might be interesting, sort of, and conflicting secondary sources like posted data sheets NOT POSTED by STABIL might be humorous, I think going to the "horses mouth" confirmed it for me. If you turn up anything (recent) that claims STABIL is not suitable for diesel let us know. There is a lot of info on the net and not all of it is correct, unfortunately. Some of us grew up in a time when if it was in print it was the gospel. I got over it.

On a similar note... I had a discussion with a nature smart retired park ranger regarding the fact that the hog nosed snake has fangs at the back of its mouth and can invenomate you. He pulled out his Peterson's guide and proved me wrong. I borrowed his wifes desktop computer and proved the Peterson't field guide wrong.

This describes the confusion about whether or not Sta-Bil is appropriate for Diesel...specifically ULSD, which it is...:D

Yep.. on the bottle I had, it did not have an ingredient list.. but did carry a 'warning! ' that it contained propanol ( isopropyl by another name.. ) And my bottle did mention diesel.. go figure. This was one of the short? 8oz bottles. It's empty.. but I keep it for mixing 2cycle oil.

Even better.. you have to put in a sku # or they won't honor the request.

I went ahead and jumped thru their hoops and gave them a good legit reason for needing the MSDS..

I'll post a link when i get some time.

Given the DEEP POCKETS the STABIL folks have, don't you suspect that if they were selling a product labeled for diesel use that was patently inappropriate for diesel use that they would be sued into bankruptcy?

By the way, Sound Dude...do these look the same to you?
