I ask because I tried it as full turns, as you describe, and it ran worse. I was thinking I was making too large of changes. I will try again tonight and will also spray some starting fluid where the carb meets the manifold to make sure the vacuum leak is gone.

Also check intake manifold to head area for vacuum leaks

OK, checked for vacuum leaks and there are none. I started fresh with the carb and with 5 turns for both the air and main needles it started to run OK. Not great at high RPM -- but OK. Once I got the throttle in a good spot I dusted off the snow and head off to plow the road. I never adjusted the throttle but she worked well and provided plenty of power to get the road clear.

Thanks for the help, guys. I will keep my eyes out for a new carb if she can make it through winter without another major breakdown.

5 turns of the main? you have a fuel restriction.. or VERY dirty carb.. or no venturi.

5 turns of the air?

Are you seeing an issue here.

turns OUT on the main enrich the mix.

turns OUT on the idle LEAN the mix.

yer carb is fubar....

he's leaning out one circuit and way over enriching the other. and needing that much adjustment means fuel system desperately needs help.

I remember when I had a similar issue with my 45 2n it was stalling and losing power loaded or unloaded it ended up being the cheap points I bought and the timing was off because the points were so poorly made.
