Replace my 30 year old Ford 1520 4WD compact with Kioti CK2610H ?

I like my tractor. It doesn't burn oil. The turf tires do GREAT on ice & snow.

The dealer says he'll give me $7,550.oo in trade on his $29,950.oo CK2610H w/ new snowblower, tax, & delivery @ $24,248.oo

I told him we were close to a deal, but I didn't like his number. He wouldn't budge, so I walked, told him I'd sleep on it.

At this price, it's got a glass house on top, heat but no air, a snow blower, wipers front & back.

BUT !!

It's got ag tires. And I've had FABULOUS luck with turf tires, particularly on snow & ice, the most important job this machine will do. Oh yeah, and on my lawns & fields.
He doesn't want to switch the tires (can't blame him, a pain in the neck job).
I don't want to have to put chains on, & take them off twice a year, if ag tires can't get a grip.

I'm not much of a tractor guy. Any insight here?

How's the $money?
How's the rig?
Any warning signs or pitfalls here?

My 1520 is a dandy little tractor, just has a $few $thousand in maint. done to it. It doesn't burn oil. Runs like a top.

BUT !!



That's the view from my kitchen window.
I'm on a hilltop, inside the Adirondack Park. We get over 100" of snow here per year. We're in the lee of 2 Great Lakes, Erie, & Ontario.
And despite my balaclava, blowing snow in the open blows snow onto my face, and has already degraded my complexion. Being 65 is bad enough. I'd rather not compound the problem with sandpaper, & cryogenics.

For all my 1520's manifold virtues, it lacks a heated, enclosed cab.
In addition, starting it in weather 20 Fahrenheit & below can be a chore.

Due to drainage ditches on my 800' long driveway, I can't plow it.
That means a snowblower, and a walk-behind isn't recommended for over 200'.

The CK2610H will have a fully enclosed heated glass cab. And the dealer assures me I can blow snow in it, in my T-shirt.

The tractor he's got has ag tires. I've had fabulous luck with turf tires on ice & snow. He completely doesn't want to change them. I don't have enough tractor experience to know if I can get buy without chains or problems with the ag tires on it now. Any suggestions?

One other reason.
When I start it in cold weather before it starts my 1520 spews atomized raw diesel fuel, diesel mist. Humans should totally not inhale that.
But my 1520 is parked under a ShelterLogic, a tent to keep the rain & snow off.
The Kioti seems to more civilized, even though it doesn't have a DPF & re-gen cycle (tier 4). Dealer says this model is "tier 3", so no re-gen cycle, a huge plus due to the likelihood I may run it for only a few minutes at a time, on some occasions.

Get yourself a cab.

I’d be more concerned with the lack of A/C in the cab. During the warmer months it’s going to turn into a greenhouse. Not sure how you could work in it on a hot summer day.

If you like turfs then I’d recommend you stick to your guns and figure out a way to get them. Ags don’t have much of a contact patch to work well on ice.

The tractor the dealer is trying to sell me from his lot has ag tires, no greenhouse, etc.
Would it be unreasonable for me to get him to leave that one on the lot, and order one to my specifications?

I don't want him jerking me around either. It's a relatively small dealership, a quarter the size of the New Holland dealer. I'm not sure his crew has all that much experience with such conversions. I'd prefer a machine configured properly, from the factory.

I suspect my salesman simply doesn't want to go to the trouble to change them. So he talks about how fabulous the tires on the tractor now
work in the soil.

I'll check with him after the holiday about ordering a CK2620H from the factory, ordered to my specs.

You are likely to find a tractor ordered will be higher in price than the one on his lot. Matter of fact in business world also may not be tier 3, that not sure of. He does not want to the tires for a very basic reason most likely, he does not have the rims for turf tires and those would be to buy and hold on the ag tires and rims with the thought he may not be able to sell then anytime soon if ever.

We don't have have much in snow or ice here. So can not offer any suggestion on the tires but had a tractor few years ago with think Goodyear (they sold to Titan I believe) that were radials with different foot print than the standard two bars most ag tires use. Those tires had the best tractor on any surface it was on of any tires I have ever had. What am I saying, you might be able to find a tire in the ag tire size that would work with those rims that would work fine for you.

So I'd say if you just want to try something new, go ahead and get one ..... but keep that Ford. He's not giving you all that much for it anyway.
You can always sell it; which makes keeping it as good as - or better than - money in the bank.

The dealer knows that's true. If you trade it, my bet is he will have people fighting on his doorstep to buy it from him.

My driveway is unpaved, and in bad shape. I can not run the mower from one end to the other without crash, thus it's over-grown, rubs the undercoating off my Honda Civic.

To prepare the driveway for the snowblower, first snow of the season instead of the blower, driving backward, I angle the bucket (FEL) chin up, bucket on float, and mash the snow down in forward, to a surface the blower can slide on. It's not a panacea. The LP delivery guy goes nuts, needs crampons to haul the delivery hose up to the submarine. The delivery hose is on a spring-loaded spool.

R4's may the most fabulous thing since sliced bread. I simply do not know. But it's a very expensive experiment if it doesn't work. Turfs work FABULOUSLY, on the driveway, on the road, on ice & snow, and believe it or not, even on turf !

A tractor is a tool.
I've been allowing myself to be snowed in, sometimes for weeks at a time. I'm 65, retired, and have already had to go to the hospital once on emergency basis. I've learned how to store enough food at home so I won't run out of that. But I'm still snowed in! DANGEROUS !!

I love my Ford 1520, BUT !! It's not easy to start below freezing, and gymnastics are required to prevent the NO OIL PRESSURE idiot light from staying on for half a minute before things loosen up in there, & the light goes out.
I don't like the raw diesel mist that leaves my clothes smelling like a tractor. Can't be good to breathe.
BUT !! Worst of all, getting snow blow-back in the face. I want to put a permanent stop to that !! And the solution only costs $30,000.oo What a frick in $bargain ! ! !

If you don't understand, you've never gotten snow in the face like that. It's not only unpleasant / painful. It's permanently disfiguring, AND EASILY PREVENTABLE !! It has absolutely nothing at all to do with ... "just want to try something different."

I'm already too old to run that tractor at 5 Fahrenheit, and I'm not getting any younger. My parents each lived into their 80's. So if I'm going to buy a new tractor, I might as well have benefit of it for my last 15 years, instead of only my last 3.
It's about the same amount of $money, but it's 500% of the benefit.

AND FINALLY !! This is a Tier #3, no re-gen !! That may mean absolutely nothing to you, or to guys that run TFO 8 hours a day. For 12 years, I've been running my 1520 at or near idle during 3 seasons. It saves an ENORMOUS amount of fuel. And that's a big deal, because I fuel it from a 5 gallon jug, which requires ridiculous gymnastics, and significant muscle strength & coordination. I don't like spilling diesel fuel, I've got a ground-water well. But I may only run it for a few minutes, and that plays havoc w/ Tier #4.

Because of my "gentleman farmer" tractor use pattern, New Holland tells me their Boomer may simply shut down, requiring $$expensive remedy, because theirs is Tier #4. That is 100% unacceptable. And I don't know if Tier #3 will be available much longer. Best to strike while the iron's hot! This is my chance. I'll make the salesman an offer next week.

I can readily relate to your "gentleman farmer use pattern".

I don't have snow to deal with though, as I go to Florida for the winter.

That said, .....I already have 3 Fords, so....why did I just buy a very low time 2006 Kubota L48 TLB?

Because I am 78.....and I wanted it to play with .....that's why!

Well Mr. Snow Bird, I've got air conditioning in my car, but not my house. But the enclosure on the Kioti CK2610H is a greenhouse.

As the salesman configured it, there's no air conditioning. Should I get air conditioning with it? I don't know the extra $cost. But how bad could it be? A few $grand?

Does the A/C really work on these tractors? Can I prevent my ice cream from melting in there?

ok looking at models like the Kioti and just buying heres what I would tell you. Insist on the right tires, R4 tires are popular and should suit you well, or force them to get what you want. Also in the kioti line of tractors your not getting AC until you jump up to the 3510 series, the 2610 and 2510 dont have AC just heat which means another 5 grand and DPF filter. Now that doesnt mean you cant take the doors off in the summer.
Another option which I just bought was the Kubota B2650 only factory cab in that class and only tractor with AC along with heat. price with cab and tractor is about 21ish, loader add 4 k add about the same for blower.
