Replacing Logging Winch Cable

I have a fransgard winch and need to replace the cable. I am not sure how to get the old off the drum and attach a new one. Anyone have experience with this? I can open the access plate but i just cant see how its attached in there. Must be a simple answer - thanks.

I think if you pull unwind the cable it will becoem obvious. I suspect if it's liek the ones I have changed it's a keyhole that the ferell on the end of the cable clips into.

I have unwound it all the way and taken off the plate which I believe is all you need in order to access the inside of the drum. It appears the cable tightly wraps 180 degrees around something and of course is tighter than heck and its not possible to just push it backwards with your hand. SO I am hesitant to just start banging on it with a rod or something until I ask a few who may have done it. thanks

I am not familar with your winch, but I have had to take a torch and cut the dead head end at the winch, just watch out, be careful. Usually after you cut the cable, you can tell how it goes back.
