Restoring antique plow - need to remove rusted nuts/bolts - how much heat?

A TurboTorch,, with the T-6 tip will get any bolt on the plow red hot,, with just propane.

I can heat a solid 1" round steel bar red hot with the torch.
You use a 20 pound tank for fuel, not the little bottle.

I use the grill tank.

This is a serious amount of heat,, I seldom ever crack open the oxygen bottle anymore for heating,, now that I have the TurboTorch.

^^^^
That's more than I paid for a used set of torches with tanks

I tried the melted wax method on a rusted together 2 inch receiver hitch.

The hitch won...

In theory, if the hot wax can penetrate the boundary, upon cooling there is an expansion mechanism (much like water ice) that will push the two over several weeksmembers apart.

I'm waiting for that to end up useful, but I keep trying ;-)
If you can remove the entire hitch from the vehicle, stand the assembly upright, and spray with Kroil every day or two, you will eventually be able to get the hitch assembly apart.
You will first need to remove all the wax you have tried.

My personal preference is spray with rliquid
wrench in a few minutes gently tap with a hammer
repeat in approx 15 minutes always works for me.
Heating metal takes the temper out????????????

Liquid Wrench is often OK on the easier ones, but Kano Kroil will do the tougher ones.

The OP did not mention the year,, but most "antique" plows had no "temper" in the parts and hardware, anyways,,
that was developed much later in the 20th century.

I had 4 3/4" bolts on my Dad's old rear blade that were rusted, but the bolts were worn and loose. I tried to get them off with my impact wrench, no such luck.

I used a propane torch on the nuts, takes 5 minutes on each and it is cherry red. Then I used my impact and came off easy. It's called patience.

As opposed to: "Don't force it, get a bigger hammer".

I don't own or need a full cutting torch set. Will the small Benzomatic Brazing Torch type kits (w/ oxygen) produce enough heat to get the nuts red hot? If so, any recommendations on a kit?

Thanks
Also use Coca Cola. The phosphoric acid works on the rust.

Disk grinder with cutoff blade. Slices nut off quickly if you can get at them.
