You didn't say if the ORC was new, or used. If used, the old grease may be getting caked, and dirty causing drag. Kinda' like in old pull type plow lift wheels. Take it apart, and clean, and re-grease. I've had to do a couple like that over the years.
For the going from reverse to third, maybe just take that extra couple of seconds to hold the brake to get everything whoa'd in the tranny.. Those couple of seconds, are a lot better than downtime.
