This is definitely scary. I also have a 4500 with 345 hours. Please keep us informed. Also, I would be interested in knowing if anyone else has had any problems with the 4500 or similar Mahindra models.

No troubles here. I did have some hydraulic issues early on, but all were covered under warranty. The 6000 has almost 900 hours on it so far and the 7010 has almost 100.

Brenda sent me a PM on this site and said Mahindra didn't know anything about this. Strange, since my dealer has contacted them twice.
Good luck dealing with Mahindras customer service dept.I have dealt with them in the past when tryng to buy a new 2008 mahindra 4110,with not very good results.I ended buying a Kioti DK40se instead of the Mahindra because of the way I was treated.coobie

Been mowing with my old MF230 the last few days and haven't been on so here is the update.
Mahindra contacted my dealer and told him to pick up the tractor and assess the problem.
They are very busy in the shop right now ( this is a small dealer in a small town ) but will get to it asap.
As for the oil not showing in the pictures, it had been several weeks and MANY heavy rains and storms before I took the pictures. At first it was flowing out the block and running down the side.
My friends Kubota 3400 ended up pulling the Mahindra back up to the house, should have gotten a picture of that!

The Mahindra is on it's way to town! Dealer just picked it up. Mahindra has been calling him to get status report.
He doesn't know what could have happened, never seen an engine fail where this one did. Have to pull it apart to see.

Went by dealers today for followup.
The rod cap was lying in the oil pan!
One bolt is sheared off clean, the other is bent, then sheared.
Both shoulders of the rod are broken off.
He is waiting for the Mahindra rep to come by to look at it.

From what you describe, there is usually only one way that such a dramatic failure of a rod can happen...that's if the piston has seized...is that the case? BobG in VA

Don't know about seizing, dealer thinks rod cap came off and then the slap of the loose rod broke the shoulders off.
I am no kind of mechanic, that's why I try to use people who know more than I do to work on my equipment.
Rod caps are the problem mentioned by the dealer who sent me the private message and said that there have been some others with the same problem, but not many. Sure hope the new engine Mahindra went to addresses this problem.

As of today, Mahindra rep has not told dealer what they will do.
#3 rod was about to go, and there was antifreeze in the oil. Cylinder head, gasket ? I don't know. Just waiting.
