Sorry to hear that you are having problems. I just don't understand why the problem was not brought to your dealer's attention when it occurred. As I understand it the problem originally occurred while the machine was still under warranty. If the dealer knew of the problem you may have had a leg to stand on. The second thing is if the machine didn't sound right, tow it to the house, by running it you were just asking for problems. According to your posts you have access to another machine so towing it bact to the house or out of the field to a place where it could have been trailered should not have been an issue.

My last point is why anyone would leave a $20K machine sitting in the field all winter long.

The fact that you have gone to Mahindra 7 months after the problem occured, in my opinion you don't have a leg to stand on. If Mahindra decides to warranty the repair work you should consider yourself lucky.

A picture on the internet of a disabled Mahindra in a farmer's field, is not good publicity. I agree civesnedfield, that iron should have been brought out of there long ago.

If Mahindra does fix this, that would be good publicity, and cheap advertising.

I took the pictures to my dealer today and he is going to e-mail them to the Mahindra field rep and see what they will do.

1. Money-I was out of work, still am.
2. The warranty expired the month it started knocking, and I was not sure what the problem was, a friend thought it was injectors and I didn't have the money to fix them. That's when I tried to drive it back up to the house.
3. My MF230 had a bad radiator, I got it fixed in June. No trailor to take it into town, I would have had to pay the dealer to P/U.
4. A dealer in another state contacted me to say that Mahindra has had problems with rod caps slipping and IS taking care of some engines when that proves to have been the case. (The dealer has requested to remain un-named.)

Please keep us informed of Mahindra's response. Thanks for the detail so far.

I would think that Mahindra could ignore this one pretty easily if they wanted to......little/no documentation, marginal dates with regards to the warranty, etc. No offense to jasperab, I would hate to be in his spot looking at re-engining a nearly new tractor that may not even be paid for yet(?).

But, if they do go ahead and honor this, my hat will be off to them for it and they'll earn tremendous respect in my eyes.

Indeed, keep us filled-in on the story, jasperab.

So far, Mahindra seems to be a company with a heart. Although it isn't a perfect company, which one is? To the best of their ability, they are trying to serve their customers. I have heard there is some dissatisfaction with the 24/7 hotline. At least there is one. Although, I haven't used it myself.

My dealer is my first line of contact , and I rely on him first for any issues, (and I've only had one minor one in almost 300 hours). Thankfully, I've never had a problem that wasn't gladly resolved.

I've digressed from the subject, but I wanted others to know, I think Mahindra is destined for great things.

"I've digressed from the subject, but I wanted others to know, I think Mahindra is destined for great things...."

Got no problem here. I was a Long Farmtrac fan and looked for years at buying new from them if I could get the money right. Then, this whole thing broke loose and we're talking financiers and insurers and warranty liablility and my stomach has just turned over. Even at fire sale prices they've killed my enthusiasm.

Mahindra has been, seemingly, very straightforward and robust and got my attention. They seem to care...have a plan.....have some ideas backing their enterprise...want to "make good"...and get involved with tractor owners/buyers. I don't care if they're Indian, Japanese, American or Martian...if they seem to give a hoot it is all good. Mahindra still builds a no-nonsense tractor that the common dude can buy (or reasonably finance) that is tough and easy to wrench on. Tough to say for the other cats.

The only thing I can find close to Mahindra's range is Montana with their UTB offerings and they are more expensive and more complicated than Mahindra's still.

After owning our Mahindra since 2003, this is the first time that I have read of anyone having serious issues with their tractor's motor. We haven't had any issues with our tractor, and I would buy another one again.

Anyhow jasperab, I hope that the dealer will find an acceptable solution for you.

Within the last two months, my buddy's 2006 Chrysler Durango throw a rod at only 62K miles, and Chrysler denied their extended warrantee based upon two missing oil change receipts. He ended up having to cough up $6k for a new engine (due to two #@$%@# receipts). Within the same time period, a coworkers 2007 Chrysler Charger lost it's transmission with less than 12K miles. In both cases my friends had to fight tooth-and-nials with Chrysler corporation.

I guess that my point is that an occasional lemon is to be expected, and hopefully the manufacturer will do the right thing even though technically the tractor was out of the warrantee period.

Jasperab, I hope you can get Mahindra to fix your engine under warranty. For that to happen at 186 hours is just not right. I am a happy Mahindra owner, and have had no problems to date. That being said, I would be VERY unhappy if things started flying out of my crankcase. Keep us posted please. I will be very interested to see how Mahindra handles this.
