Well it’s the hills that are the issue here. I’ve gone and got better quotes on the sub compacts since my first post but if you take off the Midmount mower it completely changes even the reason to get a sub compact in the first place. In fact I think I’d be best going with a pure mower for 3-5k and eventually getting a larger compact tractor like a 3 series Deere or something like that.

I’m now currently looking for. 2018 model Husqvarna ts354xd, since the new model this year dropped the Kawasaki for a Briggs engine :(

Anything else with a k66 or better locking rear differential, good engine, at least a 54” deck for 4k$??????

On the Husqvarna site drop down box (if clicked) still shows Kawasaki as option for TS354XD.:)

Ok, time to throw in a monkey wrench here. My most immediate need and main thing I will be doing is mowing. Since the 1025r and sub compacts MMM is so expensive and the overall machine is so expensive in addition to heavy (for wet conditions) and tippy you have all convinced me I should probably just get a mower for now and larger tractor later.

I have 2 - 3 options here:

1.) I have located a new 2018 Husqvarna TS354XD for 3,499 before tax with the Kawasaki engine about an hour from my house.
2.) I have loacted 2 used John Deere an x729 and a 2010 x748. The x748 has just over 500hrs and I think I can get it for about $6000. Oddly the x729 guy wants the same for his.
3.) The guy with the x748 has an old 430 as well but not sure the hours or price...

Help!!

If that $2,000 it so to move to that x748 is okay with you, I would go that way in one tenth of a heartbeat.

Yanmar diesel.
4x4
1,100 lb mower
Shaft driven
Tuff Torq K92

Comparing the Husqvarna to this JD is like comparing a Ford F-150 (the Husqvarna) to the Ford F-550 cab and chassis (the John Deere). They aren't even playing on the same field.

Go get that Deere bought.

haha yea I am leaning that way....I'll let ya know. Going to do some more testing at the local shop this weekend to make sure I've covered all my bases. I'm also going to see if he still has the x748 because I know it's a heck of a machine.

Well, I missed that x748 so back to the drawing board. I went and looked at the Husqvarna and I just don稚 feel comfortable buying that. It痴 a great deal but I知 concerned about the longevity and materials overall. I may be wrong on that but it痴 how I feel.

All of that said I知 now looking at new Ferris commercial zero turns with 61? ICD decks for around 7-8k since 99.9% of my immediate need is mowing and towing a small garden cart prob never filling it with more than a couple hundred pounds. The guy I paid to mow my lawn last year uses a Ferris zero turn, so I know it痴 possible. I have a number of slopes some steep and several that require side mowing. I looked at the Ferris and they are built like tanks with comfort! The the dealer said he can put a hitch kit on and more knobby lug tires instead of turfs.

I also drove around an LS scut on a 20 degree slope and near tipped it. Given that I have to mow several steep grades sideways or else break out the old push mower and weed eater I?m thinking that the zero turn might be the best option? I did get a great quote from them for the LS with loader and 60? MMM but no idea if it cuts as well. I do know it didn?t have as many quick connect features as the Deere but again the scut before tax is still double the cost of the commercial grade zero turn.... ugh...brain overloaded again.

I'm pretty confident in the TS354XD...20190407_131918.jpg

A commercial ZTR with chevron type bar tires will outperform any std CUT/SCUT/lawn tractor mowing hills. Lower ctr of gravity, wide stance, & the ability to torque vector drive wheels independently. It's not even a debate.

I agree 100 percent but some people are hung up on wrong and do disagree.

I would not attempt to side mow the slope in post 35 with anything I have. Up and down, yes. Not across.

Or you could leave the steeper portions alone. If you really need to mow that steep, you might want to look at a Power Trac slope rated machine. I have a 422, it's not anything like the rating on the slope machines, but i got mine because i had too many different tractors up on two wheels when testing them out. So i finally landed on a Power Trac, so to speak.
