rims cracked

   / rims cracked #11
Reminds me of my cousin, when he was 11 and had a go-cart. He took it for a run out the field road which went through the pasture woods. After one run, he came back to the farm yard with the right front wheel setting about 6-8" up in the air, running on just three wheels (frame twisted). My uncle asked him "what happened?", and then "what did you run into?". Both questions were answered with "Nothing". There was a good deal of tree bark wedged between the rim and the bead of that tire too.
We went for a walk and saw the tracks in the dirt where he was going too fast around a left hand curve and hit a large oak tree about dead center with the right front wheel. The marks on the bark of the tree ran up a good 3-4' high and the wheel marks in the sand suggested clearly that the landing site on the dirt 'road' were a good 12-15' beyond the tree. Still, the reply was he didn't remember hitting anything. Still don't know if he did a 360 barrel roll in mid air before landing or not. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif He was lucky to be in one piece, and gained a bit of experience (I remember doing things like that too /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif )

My experience tells me that the wheel with the cracks was run loose. It can't be emphasized enough that the wheels on a new tractor have to be re-torqued to operators manual specs shortly after initial operation and then regularly thereafter.
