It already has happened on my road. Dog had to be put down. You must be either Sales or optimist.

No I am someone who owns 3 of them. the blades stick "out" less then a half inch. This will blow peoples mind, but the blades are nothing more then mens shaving razor, they are tiny.

Not only that they have tip over, bump and motor overload protection, for normal production models.

I would LOVE to know more about this accident. I would literally put a toddler next to one of them and not be concerned.

My question is how well or do they, deal with mole runs, exposed tree roots, lawns that are really marginally better than pasture in some places. I would truly like to have something to keep around the house cut so I could only have the big open areas to contend with.

they will get stuck in holes if they are big enough, they can deal somewhat with tree roots, but there is a limit.

you will spend the first month or so fixes issues with the lawn so they don't get stuck, i have them on 2 properties. one took me 2 fixes, the other a bit more.

they are not designed for pasture at least the smaller residential models.

Which ones have you used and what is your recommendation? My new yard is 1.5 acres and I don’t want a ground wire.

I only have experience with Husqvarna, no wire means you need their EPOS model, which requires a gps antenna on a high point. you also need to make sure there are no tree's overhead as they require very clear sky.

they have some newer models coming out that can use both the wire and the epos.

if you want "striping" you are required to get a EPOS model.

your somewhere in the area of 3-6k you need to look at slopes as well, as it reduces the acres possible.

I like the idea of them but haven't looking into it yet. I just assume they are a lot of money, and I wonder how long they last?

We have gone through quite a few vacuums in the house to deal with dog hair, and they all work great, until they don't. Roomba is by far the best, but they are all plastic, and the plastic parts wear out way too fast.

I can think of a lot of other things that I would enjoy doing more than mowing around my house once a week. Probably my biggest issue is just wondering if the Scag zero turn will start and actually mow!! Eliminating that struggle in my life would be amazing!!!!

Battery's and wheel motors are the number one failure. expect battery replacements around 5 years.

These mower run ridiculous hours for non RTK models. my mower is setup to run almost 40 hours a week.

They are mainteners, they do not "cut" meaning you will generally never see the grass grow except where the mower can't get.

its a large quality of life improvement, they can cut in the rain (go home in the rain via a integration) and can cut at night in the dark, if your lawn stays dry. the video above from youtube is my one mower, my mother asks a question with it cutting grass, you DO NOT hear them run, from more than 5 feet away

I've thought about them a few different times, looked up models.

I wonder how they would do in between our rows. Attached is a google earth screenshot of the area I would be most concerned with. This makes up about 3.5-4 acres. You can see the rows in the picture. Most rows are on a 10' spacing about 125' long with a 25ft road down in between them.

Big trees in the upper left and top center are pecans so a big canopy. I could omit that and manually cut it. Back of farm is mostly orchard trees, and a large vineyard. Only cut that one a month until picking time.

Even the Greenworks battery-powered ZTR mower only works when cutting grass 3" or less. As littlebill21 said, you cannot see where the grass has been cut with these robotic "mowers".

$7K, you can't buy a new name-brand ZTR for that today.
If I didn't get so much enjoyment from running machinery I'd buy one.

WOW... It sure is tempting to try this out. for me its $8k. Pricey but I spent that much on the John deere front mower... needs more researching in my environment...

Just sent them an inquiry and series of questions.

Let us know what you hear back from them, I might consider going this route as well but the video I watched looked like the cut was not that good and a lot of back and forth over the same area.

I got a response about 30 mins after I sent in my inquiry. Albeit it was only to let me know they passed my questions on to the right department. I think its an overseas company. They had some issues with the 2023 year model but have revised it in an 2024 model and updates to 2023 firmware etc.

Like many things first adopters are guinea pigs/beta testers...

Not sure about overseas. My son sent me the info and said it was a kickstarter project that was going from development into production. Kickstarter is a crowdfunded development company in Brooklyn.

You can program it to stay out of areas but I think it figures out other obstacles on its own.
