It's the 21st Century and pipe wrenches (quality or not... although probably inherited from a deceased [though much loved] maternal/paternal senior/grand/great-grand relative) are the stuff of Luddites.

I like the Knipex solution... indeed, I've priced one at A$85 at TotalTools in Launeston and am thinking of swinging by there a week Monday to have a wee boo.

Monkey wrench doesn't have a pivoting moving jaw that tightens when force is applied, like a pipe wrench does.

Here’s how hard a pipe wrench will bite. This same pipe wrench which is by no ones standard a quality tool and has buggered up teeth easily holds my weight turning against a floor jack axel.
