how about doing one with diesel? its a bit late...but it would be interesting for sure.

of what you got there, i m going with FF, just because its thickest

Add a few percent compressor oil into the diesel. It has corrosion inhibitors to combat the moist environment of a compressor crankcase.

The diesel suggestion was based in the claim by a member that diesel has no rust preventing properties.

I mentioned it to see if it did (as has been my experience)

Yep! Rust Check is a strong going concern and if you can find a dealer you can buy from them or from Canadian Tire.

I just bought a spray can of Green to treat my sliding tonneau cover. Works great to keep it from freezing in the track. I got mine at NAPA, its available at crappy too.


There has been some discussion that Rust Check has caved to their applicators demands and forced retailers to remove the larger buckets of Red from the shelves to prevent DIYers. Ill have to try and confirm that next time im in NAPA

Rust Check, Metropolitain Bio and Formula 3000 are thicker

I put stuff on steel bar 02-09-2014, spray salt water 5-6 times, wipe bottom (+- 1 inch), spray salt water 2 more times and wash with soft water. 03-01-2014 picture show results.

First: Liquid Wrench (I dont understand. It was not my first choice)
Second (ex-aequo): T40, Metro Bio, Formula 3000, WD-40 (Yes), T-9 and ACF-50

Next step, I will use high-pressure washer and salt water again.

That's pretty cool. I would not have expected liquid wrench and wd-40 to do so well. Did you do any prep to the steel before you coated them? I notice that allot of the samples have rust around the fastener which could be the acids from your fingers when you mounted the samples.

I just sand the bar to clean previous rust. The black spot on Liquid Wrench came from first life of steel bar. The top of bar were not spray because my finger cover it.

I make this test to find the best rust proofing stuff. A stuff able to penetrate in small crack. Not a waxy thick stuff that keep moisture in crack.

Interesting.

But, if you do a real world, timed test, evaporation will change the results significantly.

When I have seen those done, WD40 is usually the first to go.

You can save yourself a lot of time, and just order some CorrosionX: Corrosion Technologies

Just order CorrosionX. I understand it is a aviation stuff like ACF-50. I order GLI SHIELD IT too. I also want to test LPS Hardcoat but only find it in gallon. Many industrial storage protector can be interresting to test but availiability for 1 spay can is complicated.

You are right about evaporation. Long terme test sould be interresting.

I made a first test with 7 stuffs on a more long terme (4 month). Probably my test is to aggresive (salt water) but most sample rust a lot. Form left to right: Rust Check Red / Krown T40 / Formula 3000 / Sprayon 103 / SprayOn 711 / WD-40 / M-55 / raw

Formula 300 was the only waxy stuff
