My ten year old dog got sick and died suddedly when my wife and I were away, my two kids had to dig a hole by hand and bury Cocoa.
It was tough on them because it was half their life with the dog.

My dog Zed died nearly exactly a year ago. We all helped digging his grave by hand.

I still have not come to terms with it enough to finish his headstone.

two years ago i had planned to dig for our pup, who we had to put down after a short but aggressive fight with cancer. my wife said i wouldn't be able to do it - she was right.

i told myself that we wouldn't have another dog in our family for a few years. we both had a tough time losing the pup. my wife was persistent though, and later that same year we again had a dog in our family (pictured at left). she's not the same of course, but she's a good dog and i love having her around. i guess i should listen to my wife more often.
