With my B1750 I've found that in 2WD the front wheels tear up the turf while turning sharp corners. The B1750 has the bi-spead turn where in 4WD the front wheels turn faster during a tight turn, pulling the front end around and this seems to protect the grass fairly well so in my case leaving the tractor in 4WD is preferable - even on flat ground.

As I understood it the bi-speed turn thing is a way of adding more lead to the front to allow for it being on a wider arc.

I leave my B7800 in 4WD all the time but I don't drive it on pavement at all.

Sadly, it seems that my truck has been in 4H most of the time since winter came early on Nov 9 this year:eek:

Tried 2wd drive when first got tractor to compare to 4wd then left it in 4wd since. only on gravel or snow so see no problem.

I do. The problem is...-without guaranteed circumspectness you get caught in a dangerous situation; needing it but unable to engage. 2wd is usually more efficient tho - the front tires last longer and the tractor usually turns better and with less ground disturbance, so I try to stay vigilant to conditions and use 4wd only when needed. Obviously there is some risk in not leaving it in 4wd, but there are potential benefits as well. The trick is staying conscious. Better to exercise that response than a rote one that ultimately will result in complacence.

Larry ... thats right I just didn't go back and read that. And again if it was meant to be fulltime 4x4 ... surely they would not have put a disengage lever!!!

Maybe they will realize there is a lever to engage this feature and it simply is not meant for full time 4x4 ....

I think I just learned something (wow, that's a strange feeling).

I always thought that you could only bind up a 4WD that doesn't have a center diff. by turning on a hard surface. But if the front wheels are always turning faster than the rears by a little, then eventually, it sounds like it would bind up even going in a straight line.

That would also apply to my F350 pickup that doesn't have a center diff.

That's why sometimes, you have to rock a little forward/backwards to pop out of 4WD; there is load on gears in the transfer case.

I tend to keep the tractor in 2wd and use 4wd on a as needed basis. No real reason, just way my pea brain works.
