You will not really be hurting them, as you are only one person. You will be hurting yourself, as you will miss the good bargains that they have. So it will be costing you money not them. Of course you have that right, so do your thing.

pruntyc...... If you think that not shopping at Walmart only hurt the person that won't shop there, take a look at who gets hurt when Walmart comes to town. Read the link that I provide above. You might love Walmart, but Walmart doesn't care about you or your town..... just their own bottom line and how they increase it is of no consequenses to the Walmart management team.... Profits are the only thing that they care about.......Please read the artilcle and then comment ...... Walmart article

Re: Sam\'s Walmart Check Out Fiasco!!

My son who is in "assets protection" for a major retailer catches employees all the time. Pretending to scan 6 items for a friend who actually paid for 4. All registers are monitored for video and electronic activity. At the store he's at right now, it has more internal theft than external.
He was called while at our house one night about an internal theft. He told the other person.. "Don't do anything until I get there. There is another employee we are watching and I don't want her to witness this just yet. She may walk out." To make the story short. When he led the employee to the office in cuffs.....2 other employees signed resignation slips and left them under his office door.

Re: Sam\'s Walmart Check Out Fiascal!!

I'm afraid that profit is what just about all the people in business are after. What else, they can't make money any other way. And so some people can't compete with them. Well we call that progress in this country. All the big farmers did the same thing, that is why the little farmer is out and the big one is in. Again its progress, and if you don't buy from them, they will still keep on getting bigger without your business. And I'm in the same fix as them. They want to make money, well I want to save money, so therefore I will buy from them. It has always been this way and will keep on going the same way. My family made their money and paid for their farm in the old times with what they raised. Then the stores got too big for them to compete with them, so they sold to the stores, and the little stores had to sell to bigger stores, and it goes on and on. So I read it and that is my comment. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: Sam\'s Walmart Check Out Fiascal!!

Hey guys,

My original post was regarding the check out procedures and if any one dislike it or not. I was hoping this would not go into Wal-mart's business practices or if one should buy from them or not. I have always bought from Wal-mart but did not like shopping at Sam's because of them frisking your items as if I could have stolen something in a 10 ft path. I actually look up to Sam Walton for his business strategies and how his corporation has done so well.

Re: Sam\'s Walmart Check Out Fiascal!!

I don't really like to have them check things at the door, but it is not that bad. The more things that walk out, the more that everyone that is honest will have to pay.

Re: Sam\'s Walmart Check Out Fiascal!!

I certainly have no objection to them checking things going out the door except when they're so busy you're left standing in line a long time. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

And how about the new "self check out" systems? Looks like everyone is going to them. The first I ever saw was in a K-Mart (now closed), and now Home Depot, WalMart, Albertson's, Kroger's, etc. While I don't particularly like them (sort of neutral, I guess), I use them a lot rather than stand in line for a cashier.

That's the good part; now the bad part. A couple of weeks ago, my wife and I bought quite a few things at WalMart, including several strings of cheap outdoor Christmas lights, and I used the self check out. I enter all my credit card receipts on Quicken at home and when I was entering that one, I discovered that I had one more string of Christmas lights than I'd paid for. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif (Stores' cashiers aren't the only ones who make mistakes. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif) I would have sworn it "beeped" every time I slid an item across the scanner. I guess if they'd checked me at the door that day, I might have been arrested for shoplifting. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif As it turned out, we decided we needed three more strings, so I went back, got three strings, and rang up four. So you can bet I'll be even more careful in the future.

Re: Sam\'s Walmart Check Out Fiascal!!

Dick,
There are 6 in my family and I am the only "breadwinner"3 girls in school and 1 boy in college(thank goodness he has a scholarship). Walmart is where we get about 90 % of our supplies. I would say the other 10 % is at Dollar General.
Walmart has always been a good store for our family to shop in.

Re: Sam\'s Walmart Check Out Fiasco!!

I think that a lot of the 'stuff" at Sam's is part psychology. You have to "join" to get the deals, they "screen" you at the doors, there aren't "decorations" etc. It is all to give the appearance of doing everything that they can to keep costs down. A lot of folks will jump through any number of flaming hoops to save a nickel!

I love/hate both stores. i know the Walton family, and they really are terrific folks. A lot of what has happened do to the Walmart business practices has hurt other businesses. but there is also a lot of good.

There are a lot of great opportunities in competing with Walmart. Target does it well. We have a local farm/home chain, Atwood's, that is really doing well. It wasn't that long ago that KM art was the ogre, look how they fell. (Although NOTHING has ever come close to how BIG Walmart is....)

Re: Sam\'s Walmart Check Out Fiascal!!

Your family is about like mine. Our buying is almost the same as yours also. We would buy a lot less if it wasn't for Wal-Mart.
