I'm tired of driving this car - it takes a lot of attention to drive in this traffic. If I hear one more word out of you two you won't be happy when I have to pull this car over. Dave (Gatorboy), you look out that window ... Don (Centex) you look out that window ... and no touching.

How I view these type of threads that turn into obvious bashing:

When I sit down to watch TV and flip through the channels..there are many stations that I just pass on by because I do not like the content they air (e.g. MTV). I just DON'T WATCH those type of stations or programs -- but I don't make a point to complain to others to share my view, for I know there are many people that do like that type of programming.

If I was forced to watch MTV for X-hours per day, then I may want to voice my complaints.

The last time I was in Lowell, was to go to a Master Mason's degree there. Of course I don't go to Beverly much either, although my grandfather and grandmother and older sister are buried there.

I have found a lot things cheaper at other stores. In other words, they're not always the cheapest. Buyer beware and educated.

As far as the person checking the receipts, at Sam's. It doesn't bother me a bit. I worked in retail sales for 32 years and seen what goes on. You'd be surprised at what people can just walk out with. For what they pay that person for standing at the door, is cheap labor.

Another thing, while I'm at it. You'd also be surprised at some of the people that get caught shoplifting. I've seen some of those 'outstanding citizens' steal the most stupid things.

Why do you suppose Walmart has greeters? I've always assumed this was mainly an anti-theft technique. Walmart is so careful about the way they do things that I'll bet they've worked out that if they pay a greeter $7/hour they'll keep $20/hour worth of merchandise from walking out the entrance.

They just put a new super Walmart in, and it has a feature that I hadn't noticed before. Near each of the exits there is a small, fairly empty room with a large glass window. I asked about it and was told that this is where the non-paying customers are interviewed. They've even streamlined processing shoplifters.

My father-in-law was a greeter for a couple of months and they do perform a security function. Although--he often said that the $7 they gave him was not worth risking life or limb.

The actual security (at least the one's I've seen and talked to) are people who either want to be or in the process of becoming police offers. The former many times have the Barney Fife syndrome. This is not a knock on Wal-mart. Every campus or company that uses security has the same type of people--cop wannabes.

Help!!!!!! Is there a way a person can shut this thread down. I didn't mean it to get so personal with anyone. We are into the whole thing again about if Walmart is good or bad. I just wanted some to agree with me on hating the check out policy. OK Murph........back to the original subject at hand.
I've never really objected to them checking my purchases vs my receipt. In some of the stores it's hard to get to the door without walking by the checkout counters with merchandise you didn't pay for. But crooks will always find a way. If they feel it is the best customer interest to do this....and hopefully keeping prices lower because of crooks or crooked cashiers, I guess I can live with the 30 seconds it takes for them to do a cursory check /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I agree BillyP. I work in retail at another big box and we check slips at the main exits. When doing this, if someone is offended, I explain that theives dress the same as everyone else.

I believe this to be absolutely true as we find about as many "professional" looking folks trying to walk out with merchandise as "hoods". The stories I could tell, but I'll keep this short.

I'd rather y'all checked slips than have the cashier forget to erase the anti- theft gadget in or on whatever I bought. It's awful embarassing to have the alarms go off when you through the door. I know I paid but you know that everybody else in the store thinks you got busted shoplifting! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif I've found those little white bars in all sorts of stuff you wouldn't expect them in and I don't think the cashiers even know what all they're in. When it happens anymore I turn around with a shocked look on my face and holler out " D$#@it, busted again!" /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

My son and I had purchased some items(CD) at a Walmart and while we are going out of the door the "alarms" go off.The store clerk an older gentleman starts checking our receipts and was having a hard time deciphering everything /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gifand about that time an alarm goes off again and again.There are about 3 different customers standing around along with me and the poor old guy is getting flustered checking all of the receipts and finally he said"ah go on and leave he wasn't going to check all of our slips" !! and waves us all out of the store. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Sometimes, I don't have anything better to do - what do you think would happen if I bought something at Walmart, put the receipt in the bag, and, if the checker asked me to look at my purchase/receipt, I politely refused?

OK, probably not... but I have a friend that worked security at a national retail store chain(not Walmart) for a few months. He said if people refused, they just let them go. They weren't allowed to touch anybody for fear of lawsuits.
