My mill is powered with an old Scania Vabis bus motor, it is fed wit a hydraulic motor and a wire. The oil that feeds the movement is the same that goes through the "push roller", syncronicing them that way. I bought the mill, just made the power equipment myself

Ok guys,

I went over there and they have a forum that guests can type in on. Their moderator sent me an em and is seting me up with registration. The forestryforum.com seems to be really well done and busy, so i plan on asking a few questions there in the future.

J,

One reason is the $, the other is that i am more comfortable around a chainsaw, and i can de-tach it to cut down the "big one". The E.R.C. that i am going to be turning into 6" D shaped logs seems to be a pretty soft wood. I plan on ringing the trees and letting them stand dead for 4-6 months before skidding them down to the mill. I know this mill is slower, but i will be retired and time really isn't a huge issue.
I do reserve the right to slap myself in the noggin for not going with a band from the get go /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif! I did get a good deal (half price) on a slightly used mill on Ebay, so if i have to trade up it shouldn't sting too bad.
Feel free to give any advise/opinions..........this my first attempt at "milling", so i have alot to learn.

Don't dry your logs. Infact mills keep them wet with sprayers. I built a band saw from an 8 hp brigs and some junk yard scrap. It was gravity feed. The log was stationary, cutter rolled on angle iron.

Worked like a charm and built a 2400 sqft timberframe house.
