Hi all,

I am planning a few driveway/roadbuilding projects this summer. They all start with using my BX 2230 to scrape the sod off the top so I can have a good base for the gravel. The BX has an FEL as well as a 48" Woods Box Blade. What is the best way to use this setup for scraping?

For scraping sod, I like to take my tiller and put it down just enough to get the sod tore up. It makes for an easy push and a clean job. It is much easier and you don't get near as much dirt as with trying to take sod up with a loader. Makes it for easier loading and filling too. Might be worth renting a tiller if you have much to do.

Most cost effective is to burn down with Roundup, wait a month untill everything is dead and then scrape just dirt.

Roundup is cheaper than the extra fuel needed to till, or just rip up sod.

roundup to kill the grass, rippers all the way down on the boxblade to tear up the leftover roots & loosen the soil, then loader to pick it up.
after 2 or 3 passes you should be most of the way through the soil part of your ground and be ready to start filling it back up with gravel.

you going to put landscape fabric between the dirt and gravel?

also - I recommend using 3" or 4" "dirty" rock for the base 6", then top it off with a few more inches of 1 1/2" road mix, but that's just me and what works in the clay I have around here.
don't forget to crown the new drive and put in drainage ditches on both sides.
