We have some nice oranges off my parents tree. Was thinking about squeezing some fresh OJ and making my own screwdriver.

Occasionally will mix Phillips Milk of Magnesea for a "Phillips screwdriver". Keeps thing flowing...

I never use a screwdriver as a pry bar; it sloshes around too much, and make break the glass.

Point of trivia... not all phillps head screwdrivers are actually phillips heads...

After years of destroying screws on Japanese built printers I learned of JIS screws. Look like phillips but cut slightly different which means regular screwdrivers frequently cam out and destroy the soft screws. A good set of proper JIS tools ended the problem entirely.

I think Phillips and straight slotted screws ought to be outlawed in favor of torx and square drive.

When I ruin a phillips, I take it to the grinder and make another awl. I never have to look to hard for an awl, I have extra's these days.

You know, this is exactly why I love this place. You can laugh, read some "sass" and actually learn something useful! Thanks for the info!

This goes on my birthday or Christmas list. Last year it included a roll pin punch set. Handy as all get out once a year !!

I grind the ends of damaged ones into a point to make them into a punch ice pick or other pick.

I had the same problem and after ages of messing about, I bought 3 really big sets of good quality screwdrivers. I keep one set in the house, one in the shop and one in the barn. I divide them up into separate drawers all organized by type (example, drawer 1 has robertson, drawer 2 has phillips, drawer 3 has ...etc). I also got them at an amazing sale price so I didn't break the bank.

It's made a huge difference and having one brand of screwdrivers allows me to easily ID type by markings. When they were all different, I couldn't keep them straight. I must admit I never threw any of the old ones away and they are still around someplace.

I do also have a tool fetish, I bet I have well over a hundred screwdrivers.

Golly!! No one has mentioned "Reed & Prince" screw drivers. Sort of step up from Phillips.

What good is a screw driver that pry with and abuse a little??? Not that I would ever do that myself. :laughing:

Save all those damaged screw drivers, grind into scribe, awl, pin punch and other useful gadgets.

Now we have to move on to Adjustable Wrenches. :thumbsup::thumbsup::laughing::laughing:

I was thinking of asking a question, then I thought you'd answered it for me. However, since I see you're also Canadian, my question is still valid.

For our friends from the US, is it true you folks refer to screwdriver with a square bit as a "square drive" instead of a "Robertson"?

It's always mystified me as to why such a situation would exist.. I think the design came from a Canadian named Robertson, but I haven't actually done the research to investigate my theory.

I'm also assuming the "Philips" head was designed by some sadistic SOB named Philips.

Every time I go to remove a rusted screw one look at a Philips or slotted head has me swearing, while a Robertson (square drive maybe?) has me saying, "Well, it'll either come out or break.."

I find screwdrivers frusterating. When I need a phillips, all I can find are flat and vice-versa.

What's more, I can't toss a screwdriver even when it's munged up (technical term) or bent.

I think I shall make a special box for screwdrivers too dammaged to keep and put it on a shelf.

I have more than 90 screwdrivers including phillips, flat, torx and square-drive. At least that's how many I was able to collect today.
