...Only comment is that with front-mounted tillers you simply drive in reverse while tilling, so you don't drive over the tilled soil. This is also typical of skidsteer tillers or similar implements....
I didn't do enough research on the tilling to discover that you drive in reverse.

Personally, I would rather drive forward for tilling, and reverse for snow blowing... Using a 3-point snow blower, I could still use the FEL during winter without detaching the snow blower... Just thinking out loud.

...I priced out the BX24 here and they want $20,800 plus tax ...
Which options did that include? One dealer gave me a price of approximately CAD$19,000 (cash price) plus tax for a BX24 (TLB).

I have a Deere 2305 and have a 48"kk tiller that has a 4 foot offset in it and covers one tire so if you go in one direction you cover your tracks. I paid 13000 for mine plus tax and 1000 for the tiller from tractor supply. I already put in my front yard 1 ac. and have 50 hrs on my tractor. I prefered the Deere over the Kubota because it was cheaper and I LOVE the pedal controls. I have knocked down trees, planted trees, moved rock, dirt, dug holes, tilled, mowed, pulled an overloaded 5x10 trailer full of dirt, put in a yard, and I'm sure more but just can't think. I do know one thing once you get one you will wonder how you did without it.:)

Not sure if they are avaliable in your area but you might want to look at a Branson, made in Korea. For more info you can check the Branson forum. I went to look at the cheep Chinese tractors and I saw 1950's technolegy. The dealer also had Bransons and I fell in love. After reading the lack of complaints in the forum I bought one.
I got a 3510, 35hp, Cummins deisel, 4 WD , 12 speeds with shuttle shift, lights and turn signals. Very good warranty. Very comfortable, with fuel tank mounted under floor, plenty of leg room. After more than two years I am still more than happy with it.
I have the industrial tires ( R-4's) and I cut my grass with a 5' finish mower and unless it is very wet they don't hurt the turf. My FEL would dump on top of the truck cab!

4 foot seems like a lot of offset. Is the offset adjustable? doesn't the tractor dogtrack with this much offset?

13000... and cheaper than the BX or some other model? The 2305 I got some pricing on was around 15% more than the BX2350. Which options & attachments were included in the dealer purchase?

I expect I'll be like most everyone else, wondering how I got along without it and why I didn't purchase sooner.

Taco - something you should know is that JD warranty is honoured North America wide. In fact, other Canucks have posted in the JD forum that there are dealers that will arrange delivery right to your doorstep for a reasonble freight ($1k or so).

Believe that one dealer was Mutton Equipment (Fort Wayne Indiana lawn mower, tractors & zero turn mowers, parts, sales & service).

Kubota will most definately not honour warranty across the border. I also know from personal experience that warranty support is pretty dealer centric around here. i.e. pretty much need to get warranty work done at the dealer you purchased from as dealers have the 'choice' of not doing warranty work on machines that weren't purchased from their dealership. The good thing of course is that Kubotas tend to require little if any warranty work.

If I was looking at a proven design like the BX, I don't think I would worry about the warranty support and would just import from the US.

There were no options. That was just a straight BX24. It would appear that there is some room to deal. I see on Used Tractors at TractorHouse.com: John Deere Tractors, used farm tractors and farm equipment, Case IH, New Holland, Agco, Caterpillar., new a new BX24 for $16,500 USD. With the dollar at par today:

CDN
Tractor $19,000
Taxes $2850.00 (GST + PST)
Total $21,850.00

US
Tractor $16,500
Taxes $990.00 (GST @ border)
Total $17,490.00

DIfference $4360.00

I would have to drive down to get one but I figure as I am an hour drive from the NY border, I think I could find a dealer there willing to deal. As for the warranty issue. $4360.00 buys alot of repair work and if something major went, I would pack it on the trailer and drive it the hour to get repaired under warranty in the US.

I can't be the only one here in Canada who feels violated by the Canadian pricing bull:mad:

Don't even get me started on the $30,000 price difference between a car like an Audi S4.

My vote will be cast when I buy my BX24 in the US and I would hope others will do the same. If the tractor was $1000 in the difference, I wouldn't bother. Maybe then the prices here in Canada will start to change and we will start to enjoy the benifits of having a higher currency. Thanks to corporate Canada, all we get are the lost manufacturing jobs.

I am off my soap box now.:D

Not sure where in Canada you are but if you're between NY and Michigan, check out Michigan dealers too. I think tractor prices here are lower than in NY or anywhere in New England. I'm a bit far from the border where I am, but I can recommend a good, big Kubota dealer near me if you want (probably 2-2.5 hours from Sarnia).

That difference is still nothing to sneeze at.

Have you checked if there are duty charges? Brokerage charges?

I'm interested... Michigan is a 1 - 2 day drive, but that won't kill a great deal. I was considering dealers in N. Dakota/Minnesota area.
