SCUT - Blue, Orange, or Green?

/ SCUT - Blue, Orange, or Green? #31
From what I understand, there would be no duty as the BX24 is manufactured in the US. If it is not made in the US there would be a duty of 6.1%. I don't believe there are brokerage charges because I am essentially the broker as I will crossing the border with the purchased tractor.

I am going to contact Canada Customs tomorrow (Friday) to find out all of the details.

For me, it seems the way to go. It is sad though that this is the way it has to be as the local dealers will miss out on the sale of a new BX24, but the dealers can blame the Kubota Canada for that. If the price difference is the result of the dealer than they have no one to blame but themselves. Like I said if the difference was $1000.00 I would be picking one up here.

I will post what I find out from Canada Customs tomorrow.

Cheers,

That difference is still nothing to sneeze at.

Have you checked if there are duty charges? Brokerage charges?

Hey, TBN Newbie here, looking for a little input. I grew up on a farm, so I'm not really new to tractors, but that was a few years back and it's been a while since I've used one a lot. My wife & I just purchased our first house; it's in a rural setting, so I'm looking forward to our first tractor purchase.

First, a little on the yard and my requirements. Yard size is 3 1/2 acres, mostly flat with a few slopes. Roughly 2 1/2 acres of mowing; 2 acres on yard plus 1/2 acre roadside ditches (steep). Tilling requirements: 3/4 acre garden, plus a few tree lines; around 1 acre total. The lawn & grass area have a few trees as well, but not too many/too closely spaced for a 60 mower deck. In winter, 150 ft drive will require snow blowing. Add on some FEL work and that pretty much sums it up for now.

What I really want is something that works well for mowing the front lawn, plus handle the other chores as well. I've done a little research, and it looks like a SCUT would be the best overall fit. (I've used by pop's Kubota BX2350 for mowing [60"mmm, worked superb] & tilling [60" Farm King, a little tough] but this is not a long-term solution.) Any recommendations on this?

I "test drove" a Kioti CK20HST on a dealer's lot, seemed a little large for the mowing (especially thinking of front lawn), but excellent for the other projects. The JD 2305, NH TZ25, and Kubota BX2350 I drove were perfect for the mowing, and all seemed capable of handling a little tilling, FEL work, and snow blowing. I'm sure some of you have a lot of seat time running these machines, doing what I want to do, so I'm looking forward to hearing your recommendations.

I think all the SCUTs I've looked at are good quality. If any of you think of features you like/don't like, let me know. I'm listing a few of what I've observed, none of which would make me buy or not buy a particular brand. Chime in if you have solutions or suggestions.

The BX2350's seat is not the most comfortable (it is bearable; I did 5 hour on it in one day), plus the abrupt slowing when getting off the reverse pedal is annoying. I like the large operator platform and the treadle style hydrostatic (minus the jerky reverse). The joystick is at the right place for me and it stays on when removing the loader, although I'll consider rear remotes as well (FEL & hydraulic top link combination).

The JD 2305 was the most cramped for me (6'6" 220#), my knee was continually knocking the FEL valve. I like the dual hydraulic pump feature for power steering and remotes, though.

The TZ25 is alright, but the loader only has 49" of dumping clearance (my pickup truck's box side measures 51" high). Also, 1 rear remote is $1000 vs. $2XX - $4XX for 2 on the JD or Kubota. On the other hand, the sensitrak is awesome.

So, what do you all say? Is price the main deciding factor? Or is the only deciding factor which dealer I get best service from? (I'll pretend to be color blind, at least until I've made my purchase. ;) )

Wow! Shaving hairs has never been such a big decision. Think of it as which dealership you want going to bat for you on a warranty or worse off yet a non-warranty issue? Which dealership would you want to service your tractor? Which dealership is growing, and which is stagnant, or worse yet, in decline. To me, these questions are far more important than color.

1* - 2* 900 hours in 3 years on my BX23 And never an uncomfortable moment in the seat.

You might want to PM Northland. He imported a B7800 from Michigan for a lot of savings. Although from what he told me, you are charged both GST and PST at the border.

My L3400 is made in Japan. The LA473 loader is made in the USA. Anyone know where the Grand L Kubotas are made?

One more thing to consider. Upon visiting a local Kioti dealer I was pleasantly surprised to find out that the savings resulting from the current exchange rate is passed on to purchasers in Canada.

I imagine that Kioti has machines that compare to what you are looking at. That is also something you might want to check out.

The Kioti dealer in Uxbridge that I visited was just about the very best dealer of ANY brand in this area. He took tons of time out to show me the product. You might want to check out a local Kioti dealer also.

Thanks, I just sent him a PM to see if he can offer some insight. I thought the BX24 was made in Japan as well when I mentioned this in another post, I was told they are made in the US.

I guess I need to find out for sure because if it is made in Japan, I may have to pay duty. This may push me to the GC2310 if so as it is a little cheaper new and I would not have to pay duty as I'm pretty sure the MF's are made in the US.

Thanks for your help.

Thanks for the info, I have looked into the Kioti on the web and they look like what I am looking for. I did a search though and the nearest dealer is about 45Kms away, which isn't the end of the earth. The only thing I didn't like about the tractor was the mount for the BH. It kills the ground clearance and looks very much like an afterthought on the tractor. I guess I just need to trek out to the dealer and have a look at one close up.

It would be interesting to see how they are being priced.

If I remember correctly, Kioti's are quite heavy for the size. If your first priority is mowing, it may not be the best option. Of course, regular aerating would probably alleviate that little issue...

"BTW, what was your deciding factor(s) to go with the tractor you did?"

My choices were a BX 2350 and JD 2305 - price was equal and both dealers are good. I bought the 2305 because I preferred the seat and loader control position. The real reason, though, is that I have a green-sided house. This is where the wife came into play...

I started this search for the tractor purchase that's best for me, and I've learned a lot.

I've gone dealer shopping & found a dealer for for each brand that I'm happy with. So now, it looks like first impressions, pricing, & personal preference (opinions) will take over...
